I love those people who are up your butt when you are driving...especially in bad weather. My FI tells me to jam on my brakes.

Sorry--had to comment on this one. Sometimes 80 in the 'fast' lane isn't fast enough (On an empty road, I personally drive between 85 and 90). I'm a very aggressive and fast driver. When I pull up behind someone who is travelling slower than me in the left lane, I wait for a while (unlike some--I don't tailgate, but wait patiently---until the slower driver just decides to ignore me for 4 or 5 miles--then I get a bit impatient) , but if you see someone come up on your butt, I think one should have the courtesy to pull over to the right to allow the faster driver to pass by. JMO, but I FINALLY got to get that off my chest to someone who actually does it!!! Yay!! .

Re: Attn: Rubberneckers...

Okay .. a couple of comments:

First .. DON'T jam on your brakes when someone is tailgating you! That is incredibly dangerous!!! To protect yourself .. when someone is tailgating you .. increase the distance between you and the car in front of you (by slowing down) .. the tailgater will find a way to get around you .. but by increasing the distance between you and the car in front of you, you are protecting yourself from a chain reaction collision if idiot tailgater should hit you. Otherwise, instead of hitting your brakes .. turn your hazard lights on.

Second .. with regard to speeding in the left lane .. sorry .. but if I'm cruising along at 75-80 mph .. and you come up on my tail .. I AM NOT going to get out of your way .. especially if there are cars around. The more cars around, the less chance I will move over. I WILL NOT put myself at risk by making a lane-change for your convenience. SORRY .. but at this point, we're all speeding .. if you don't like how much over the speed limit I'm going .. GO AROUND!

see, my situation the other day when this happened, was that there was a very large mack truck in the middle lane who kept fighting the urge to go into the left lane. he kept drifting and i didn't want to get caught between the truck and the divider so i was looking for the opportune moment to pass him. then suddenly, out of NOWHERE, this thunderbird is UP my butt. well, since he was so in a rush to get somewhere, i pushed my car to 90 to pass the truck, only to have him pass me , go into the middle lane cutting off the truck, then cross over into the right lane to get stopped by the traffic on the cross island. all that in a 30 second span. idiot!!!

And that makes me think about when someone makes a HUGE issue about needing to pass you because you're not going fast enough .. yet once they get around you, or switch to other lanes .. they get nowhere because of the rest of the traffic on the road.

I hate it when people tailgate me!! I used to step on my breaks, but that just freaked me out more than the other driver, so I stopped that. Now, if someone is up my but on the parkways I decide to wash my windows and give them a nice bath behind me, I know I hate when I am on the parkway and someone in front of me decides to wash their window at 80 miles an hour, giving me a huge bath, so that has become my revenge of choice. Usually they will then go around!! If I am lucky they will have their window or sunroof open and get a nice bath with their car!!

Re: Attn: Rubberneckers...

All that 'retaliation' stuff can be scary. You never know what you're dealing with out there.

One time .. maybe within the first 5 years I had my license .. a big pickup truck came flying up onto my tail on the Southern State .. I had no options to move out of his way .. jackarse was tailgating something fierce .. so I put my foot on the brake just to get the lights to flash on .. jackarse decides to cut off the car next to him .. gets the opportunity to get in front of me .. then slams his brakes on full force .. right in front of me .. luckily I had been anticipating that when he made the wicked manuevers to get back in front of me .. and I was able to stop in time.

I have no idea how that did not turn into a chain reaction accident.
