average $$$ for HM

average $$$ for HM

FH and I are planning our own HM--no travel agent or 'special package trips.' How much, on average, does a couple usually spend on travel to/from the HM site, hotel, car rental, etc? We're probably looking at around $4K before meals ($585 for round trip plane tixs--around $230 each--plus hotels and car rental). Is that pretty normal? I keep telling FH that it is.

I don't think it's abnormal. FBIL spent about $2800 and I think we'll be spending quite a bit more because frankly if I have to wait a year for my honeymoon, I feel as if I should get to spend a little more (at least that's what I tell myself)

ETA: I think we'll be spending about $7000

Its normal, I think. I am spending $6k but this is a vacation of a lifetime and I cant see spending this amount of money ever on a vacation.

It all depends on where you go.

I think that's normal. A lot of it depends on where you go and if you stay somewhere all-inclusive etc.

We spent $5,700 on just the hotel and airfare.

We originally spent around $6k for a week at an All-Inclusive in Mexico, but then got it reduced to around $4k (YAY!). I think between $4-$6k is pretty average, imo.

soo many things can influence this. . location, length, travel for transfers, luxury level, season etc. . but I don't think your price is unreasonable. .where are you going and for how long?

We are going to San Francisco for 3 days (8/4-8/7), driving down the Central Coast of CA (8/7-8/8, staying in a B&B over night), then arriving in LA and staying until 8/14. In LA, we probably will end up doing a lot of 'free' things like a Price is Right taping and a Conan taping, so it won't be as costly. The airfare alone was $260ish per person (fly into SF and fly out of LAX to JFK on the 14th).

We're trying to keep it around $3000-3500.

Honestly I think the location is the biggest consideration when it comes to the price.

FH and I are spending about 8400 or so for 14 days (18 all together) in the French Polynesian Islands. That's without food or alcohol. But it includes airfare and the hotel stays. Also the inter-island airfare. Although I got a great deal on it... I wouldn't spend that kind of money to go just 'anywhere'. So it's all relative. If I were going to Florida or another 'closer' type of place, I can't say I'd be comfortable spending that type of money.

FH and I spent $3000 on our room, and it was all-inclusive so that included meals and premium alcohol, and our airline tickets were $600.

I don't think that you can really say what an 'average' HM should cost. It really depends on location, length, season of travel, etc. FH and I are doing a ridiculously long HM, but I don't feel like we're spending a lot because of the length of stay, etc. It depends on what your priorities are. FH and I both LOVE to travel and we want to have babies right away so we know our HM will be a our last big trip for a while, so we splurged.

I think your HM price sounds good for what you're doing. Just keep checking the travel websites to make sure you're getting a good deal on the flight/hotels and you'll be fine. Just a tip though, a lot of times, you get better hotel prices dealing with the hotel directly rather than on travelocity or expedia or the like.

We are going to Excellence Playa Mujeres for 10 days its all inclusive, adults only and we have the rooftop terrace room with our own private pool and are paying just under $4000. We got a sick deal!

I think it all depends on where you are going. We spent 3K for airfare and hotel for 10days and then our activities and food and drink came to $1500 for the 10days (which was cheap cause we had a scuba diving trip included in that #)

ITA. We are flying first class round trip to Rome. Staying in rome for 3 days then getting on a 9 day mediteranian cruise.

This is a trip of a lifetime and we wont even spend that kind of money again.

But we did get free tickets due to a SICK amount of AmEx points. But still trans to and from airport, 3 das in Rome, 9 days on a cruise ship..it will add up.

That's what FH has been doing during his free periods today. And this is how we got a ridiculously amazing deal on a car rental. . .one of his colleagues has a BFF who works at Enterprise, and he hooked us up with a corporate or 'family member' discount.

Also, we DEFINITELY plan on telling EVERYBODY 'it's our HM!!!' Maybe we'll get upgraded when we check in!!!! Hehe!!!

On his free periods? FH occasionally gets a list of calls to make on his as well, he's a teacher.
