Avoiding getting

Avoiding getting

your period on wedding day. Sorry for such a personal question, but can anyone FM and tell me how I can go about 'planning' when I will get my period. Im getting married November 2, and I don't want to have PMS or my period that day.

Thanks - and sorry it's so personal !

Re: Avoiding getting

i know a lot of people that do this - and (especially this week) i completely understand!!!
i believe when you're on the pill, you can switch when you take certain pills to help yourself out. have you spoken to your doctor about it?

I think taking a birth control method is the only way to 'control' your period right?

Re: Avoiding getting

I'm pretty sure you need to be on the pill or some other hormone type of BC in order to delay your period. But I recommend you check with your GYN. I think you also have to be on a certain type of pill.

But, won't starting the pill (I've never ever taken the pill) cause me to be bloated and gain weight (just what i heard)? Also, is it to late to start? I sure hope not

Thanks, guys!

You're kind of close to the big day, but I think you can still start taking the pill. It takes a month or two for you body to adjust, so I am not sure you want to do this.

I am worried about the same thing, I am scheduled to get my period four days before my wedding. I am getting off of the pill though in October because we are going to try and start a family during the honeymoon. I was told that teh way to control that is through the pill. I was told that you dont take that week of sugar pills, instaed you skip that and start on the new pack. Dont know if it works or not..its juts what I was told. Hope that helps!

Re: Avoiding getting

I don't think you'll need more than 3 months to regulate your cycle and get your body accustomed to it. The BCP doesn't make everyone gain weight but I think most do. Still, I personally can only truthfully blame 5lbs on the pill, the rest was all me!! It should make your periods lighter and less painful. If it makes you sick, like it did to me (nausea), those symptoms usually subside after the first 3 months or so. I think you have enough time but you should get to the GYN asap.

Re: Avoiding getting

No, not all pills cause bloating and weight gain. The pill I'm about to start next week (I just switched pills) is supposed to be good about NOT causing bloating due to the level of potassium or some such thing - Yasmin.

It's not too late for you to start the pill - your profile says your wedding is 11/03.

Also, you can only do the 'period-skipping' if your pills are monophasic. If you're prescribed a tri or bi phasic, you can't do this method.

Oh my goodness - so much information I didn't know Thanks so much, guys! I'll make an appt right now.

Re: Avoiding getting

actually what cp wrote is not entirely accurate. I've been on tri-phasil pills and successfully skipped periods. However how your body reacts varies from person to person.

I defintely think you're calling it close - especially since depending on where you are in your cycle, it could be weeks before you can start the pill. And you would want to 'adjust' your schedule in advance - not the month of your wedding (in case you have any side effects)

Re: Avoiding getting

LOL
My period is the REASON im getting married Oct 23!!! I've been on the same exact pill since I was 18 (so about 10 years now). My periods are 2 1/2 days long. I have other health issues that cause PMS to be rather uncomfy.

So I pulled out my calendar and marked out my period week for a whole year. Found the week AFTER my period and booked it.

My birthday is in Aug (20) and Xmas is December.. so I figured Oct would mean Birthday gift, one month off, anniversary gift, one month off Xmas, one month off and Valentines day!!!

Terrible aren't I?

Mostly I just wanted not to be having my period while on my honeymoon!!!

Re: Avoiding getting

What a good question - I'm wondering too ... Lisa - on the tri-phasil pills do you just take the last week again? I thought that's what my Dr told me ... I'll have to call to confirm, but just wondering if you knew.

Re: Avoiding getting

So is there any way you can do it if you are NOT on the pill and don't want to take it? is there a pill you can take just once to get your period early or delay it?

Re: Avoiding getting

Hmmm, I always understood that tri-phasic's wouldn't work. Interesting - good to know...sorry I gave out false info!

Re: Avoiding getting

Thanks again all! I'm now thinking that I may not 'go for it', b/c you're right - if I start taking ANYTHING that my body isn't used to, I could be in worse shape. As of now, I'm 'scheduled' to get my period on Oct. 26. I'm 99.9% on the day with it, so pray for me that it continues. I just dread having PMS the WEEK BEFORE the wedding (as if I wasn't going to be under enough stress)!

Re: Avoiding getting

BC is the most effective way....you can try with diet, but it is not always effective.... make an appointment with the Dr. & they will tell you the best way. With the pill you can 'skip' and with implants (like Norplant) you can stop altogether.

Re: Avoiding getting

Not for nothing.. but Stress can mess up the date too.

I've skipped a period even on the PILL because of extreme stress.

Just thought you should keep it in mind.

Re: Avoiding getting

actually there have been recent articles saying you can stop getting you period altogether by continuously take the pill and never the placebos. But it seems unhealthy. I don't like stopping nature for too long...

emacsgirl - I think I started a new pack, which means taking the first week. But I don't remember totally. It was years ago that I was on the tri-phasil. And it can different for different pills, so I'd ask your doctor.
