Awkward Question: How do you invite guests two weeks before the wedding?

Yeah. This one requires a lot of tact and etiquette help. I've been posting about our minimum problems--still short of making it, of late and we are finishing up all of our phone calls and of course all of the family that we had to invite and were told would come are not coming. Which sucks because if we had known we would of invited more of our friends knowing that it would even out. So now less than three weeks before the wedding we can invite those friends who we couldn't before. How is the best way to go about this? Do I tell them that due to our families request to invite a lot of family that we were limited in the number of friends we could invite but because of cancellations (?) or the sucky family members who didn't rsvp or know how to pronounce or spell our first names properly and were never planning on coming anyway aren't coming, we can now invite them and would be honored if they could join us on our wedding day? Of course I won't include the tirade on family part.

Thanks for advice and ideas.

I think your idea of honestly explaining the situation (the guest list limitations you had) is the best policy. I also think that, by asking people verbally and actually handing them (as opposed to mailing) invitations, you can tactfully explain the scenario. Be sure to emphasize how much you'd love to have them there at the wedding, and how you're so happy to have the opportunity to invite them now. Good luck!

I agree!! The verbal interaction will make it more sincere.

I was definitely thinking of the verbal interaction--a phone call.

Thanks!

We had to do this with 2 couples and honesty was the best policy. They were my co-workers and I just explained how DH and I would really love if they could come to our wedding. I said we always wanted you there but unfortunately had to deal with some earlier restrictions. We hope you can join us. I also had the invitations all ready to give to them. Both couples said yes, I think it helped that both girls were former brides so they really understand the whole guest list issue.

Good luck!

Actually, the two couples we want to invite are both married, so I'm hoping that they understand.

I already put together invitations for them, so the next step is to make the phone call.
Thanks!

I agree...

I was invited last minute to 2 weddings... and I wasn't offended at all... Especially now after going through the process of seeing your guest list chopped down so my mom's great aunt from Ohio is invited...
