Awkward Situation....

Awkward Situation....

For ourr E-party, my Mom's cousin gave us a $50 check (mid July). About a month ago (mid August) I got a note from my bank that the check had bounced and we had also been penalized $10 from our account. I wanted to wait and see if maybe she would contact me about her bounced check. She never did.

My parents think I should write her a note that says 'I thought you might need this for your records' but I don't want to sound like a jerk. I also though, don't want to have lost $10 b/c of it lol! I know it's only a little bit, but it's the principle of the matter.

What's the tactful way to deal with this?

Honestly, if it were me, I'd chalk it up as a loss and ignore it. Its wayyyy too awkward of a situation and not worth the money.

I'd have to agree on this. That stinks though!!

I agree. She probably received a notice from the bank too and is embarassed that it happened. I would send her a thank you card and not contact her about it.

Yeah, I agree. I am sure she'll be notified by the bank anyway and she is probably having money problems... if you do tell her then she might feel obligated to replace the money and she probably doesn't have it. I am sure she'd be embarrassed too. I know it ***** but I'd let it go.

I'd either let it go or have your mom call her and mention it. She might just not be on top of things and doesn't realize it.

Wow that is an awkward situation. I think I would let it go and forget about it.

That stinks. I agree with the others, you will just have to let it slide. This happened once to my sister at her sweet sixteen, one of her friend's mom's checks bounced... my mom called up the woman and the woman apologized but never did anything about it.
I wouldn't send her a thank you card though, so maybe she gets the hint. If you do just write 'thanks for coming to my party' and that's it. That is a more subtle way of letting her know so it won't be awkward.

I would definitely just let it slide...way too awkward and you don't know what her financial situation is.

Just make sure when you get another check from her that it doesn't bounce again.
Maybe go to her bank and see if there is sufficient funds and then try to cash it there.
That stinks sorry that happened

My first reaction would be to put the check in a Thank You Card & mail it to her. However, I also agree.........ignore it, chalk it up as a loss.
