Just off the heels of our cystic fibrosis scare, we found out Luke probably has an inguinal hernia. Derek was changing him today and his groin area, above the penis on the right was bulging. The area was hard to the touch also and very different from the left side. He was crying at the time (not seemingly from pain though) and when he stopped crying it went down a good bit. I called the pediatrician and also read in 'What the Expect the First Year' and it sounded like an inguinal hernia. So off we went to the ped's office for the 3rd Friday in a row! Sure enough she referred us to a pediatric surgeon. So we will make an appt come Monday. Ay yi yi!! My baby boy is giving me a run for my money in the worry dept. This though is apparently not uncommon so we'll have to see what the surgeon says. I think I'm getting gray hairs as we speak. I let you all know what happens... BTW, we are not freaking out, it's very different from the CF scare and like I said, apparently not uncommon. He's not in pain or anything like that, it just needs to be corrected.

Oh you poor thing. You are going to poop out from all of the stress! I am sure Luke will be fine, I guess that is the stress that comes with the 'mom' territory! I will be thinking good thoughts and sending them your way!

Hi Elizabeth... Sorry you have to go through these things all at once.I know it is very draining because all you think about is them and what is wrong. It will get better!!! My boss' son had that hernia when he was an infant. They did the surgey and he was and is fine!! It was the same thing. We were all so nervous because he was so little!! But like you said... they told her it is not uncomon and everthing went smoothly. Keep us updated and you are in my thoughts and prayers!! Big Hugs to you guys!!

Oh man, you aren't kidding Elizabeth - this little guy sure is giving you enough to occupy your mind! I am so sorry to hear about this! While I know it's very common, I still can't believe that you have to deal with this right on the heels of the CF scare.
I am sure everything will be fine. Hopefully, you'll get this taken care of, and then you will all be able to RELAX and ENJOY the upcoming holiday season. to you all!

Elizabeth-- you are right--this is common-- When I was working directly with our kids at work I had to take one of the infants to have this surgery done-- the surgeon was great--the baby was in and out and everything went really well--and this was on a baby that the mom waited SOOOOOOOOO long to actually have him checked, kept cancelling appointments etc and he did great--- good luck on Monday--- Laura

Elizabeth,
Poor Luke, but my sister works for a pediatrician and this is not uncommon. Will make for an interesting 'blackmail' story when he's older and starts dating..lol

Oh Elizabeth, I'm so sorry that you and Derek and poor Luke have to go through another worry!! But a couple of my friends kids had this done when they were infants and everything went well!! Like you said, it is common among little boys. I'll be thinking of you and sending you hugs!

Re: Ay yi yi!!!!
My little brother was born with this. WHile it was scary (not as scary as CF) it was a very managable thing and he healed fine- that was 20 years ago. I am sure today the medical is even more advanced than back then. Give little Luke a kiss from me. I hope he feels better soon!
