Babies
I intentionally did not invite children. I arranged to pay for baby sitters at the hotel for out of town guests coming with children but now I have a situation with two people who will be nursing infants. I really don't want children! What do I do?

Re: Babies
Have you asked them about this? There shouldn't be any reason why they can't pump before they come to the wedding.

Re: Babies
That is why God made breast pumps! You are already being very nice and paying for a sitter- more than most people do. Sue if you let one guest bring a baby, watch out because the rest will be upset that they couldn't bring their children. And I can understand why.The baby will not just be there for a few minutes to eat, he/she will be at the reception ALL night. A reception with loud music and drinking is no place for a baby to be all night anyway. Tell the Moms that you appreciate their position but you are not having young children at your reception and you are sure they can understand. Remind them that you have many friends/family with children and you would end up with more babies than adults if you opened this can of worms. It is up to them if they decide to stay home.

Re: Babies
I had an 'adult only' reception and I had the same situation with a friend who was nursing and she knew way ahead of time that there weren't any kids allowed and she promised that by the time I needed to tell the caterer the exact number and she didn't have her daughter 'weaned' on a bottle, she would respectfully not come. Well it worked out! no kid, and she came!

Re: Babies
we had a guest show up with her newborn. Its was on my husbands side of the family - people I hadn't met before. They never asked, they just brought the baby along. I was surprised, but he was well behaved and you wouldn't even have known he was there.

Re: Babies
I definitely agree with the breast pump idea. How far is the hotel from the reception (in my case they're right next door)? Better to have the mother leave for 1/2 hour than get stuck with a newborn the whole wedding.

Re: Babies
My gosh, I had this problem with husbands cousin for my shower. She pulled such a tantrum over it when my mom told her she didnt think it was a place to bring children. RUDE< RUDE RUDE!!! My mom knew I didnt want any children or babies at my shower. We all wondered,'what about breast pumps?' Also, this baby was 6 months old. I dont get it?????

Re: Babies
I am hysterical at this thread! I agree with Michele - except that God did not make breast pumps b/c I'm sure He didn't intend for mother and child to be separated for the duration of a wedding celebration.
However, man DID make breast pumps and they should be used in instances such as these.
You never know, but maybe the Mom is just nervous to leave her newborn with a stranger. Don't underestimate how protective she might feel at this early stage in the baby's life.If the baby is VERY newborn, than I am sure it will sleep during most of the reception if they were desperate and HAD to bring the child (I am not condoning a rude guest...just saying what I know about newborn behavior).

Re: Babies
If you strictly do not want kids , then DONR invite them, even those that are exceptions. Because if you invite one, then they all will wonder why they couldnt bring their kids. That is why we said NO to all kids!!!!
