babies baptized

My sis is expecting next month. I was wondering if any of you had children before marriage (my sis isnt married yet) and were able to have your child baptized or christened?
I'm sorry if this is personal, but I was just wondering.
TIA.

Re: babies baptized

My brother and his girlfriend never married but live together and they were easily able to baptize their child. Now, she could end up with a Priest who tries to 'talk' to them about this decision but they cannot deny a child baptizism because of a parental 'sin' if that makes sense. So no problems

Re: babies baptized

My husband & I weren't married when we had our son. When it came down to baptizing him we went to the priest & he asked when were we married. I said we weren't married. I did get the look I was expecting. Then he asked 'why not?' I told him 'that I don't feel that having a baby is a reason to get married. I know people who have done it & they're now divorced.' Then I went the good catholic route. I said 'I can't in my right mind stand at an alter in front of God, family & friends and marry someone unless I am 100% sure.' (It did sound VERY rehearsed when I said it) But, the priest respected my decision.
Funny thing when we went to pre-cana the SAME priest mentioned how some couples get married for the wrong reason & used a baby as an example!

Re: babies baptized

Thank you so much ladies. My sis is not ready to get married. She is still with her BF and hes very into the baby, they want to finish school (they are in college) as well. I try not to bring up the baptism much cuz I dont want to upset her, but she has mentioned it and named churches she was going to try. I just wanted to post to see if others have been thru this. We as family are behind her 100% and are so excited she;s bringing this baby into the world.
Thank you again.!

Re: babies baptized

We were able to baptize our son and we are (obviously) not yet married. They didnt give us a hard time about it at all. In fact they were very understanding and supportive.
