I feed Emma Gerber Naturals the organic stuff and I also have a Baby Safe Feeder where she eats bananas, grapes and whatever else I decide to put into the thing.

Re: Baby Food
Are you making your own? I have always heard that it is very easy.

Re: Baby Food
karen I know you said you were breastfeeding, so do you do both-give her solid food too? I'm just trying to figure out how it goes. When did Emma start eating baby food out of a jar or homemade?

Re: Baby Food
Yes Im breastfeeding. I started feeding Emma food when she was 5 months. FH couldnt take the fact that he couldnt feed her so he talked me into it. She breastfeeds all day and eats dinner with us (real food).

Re: Baby Food
Paul is a Gerber baby, but just the regular stuff...I cannot be bothered paying more $$ for organic food. We don't eat organic, so I just don't see any reason why he needs to. That's not to knock your decision, Karen. I just don't feel that strongly about it.
I have just started to give him mashed up versions of what we eat for dinner....he had stew the other night...w/o the meat b/c I don't have a fancy 'grinder' or a food processor. It is not easy to make your own food w/o the proper kitchen tools. I am thinking about investing in the mini-processor to make food prep for Paul easier. He's still pretty resistant to anything that's not smooth in texture, but little by little, I'm sure he'll adjust.

Re: Baby Food
Claud - The food grinder is a hand held knob having device. I think it was like $12 a Babies R Us. It works great. Its not fancy by any means.

Re: Baby Food
Isn't the food grinder called 'food mill'? It doesn't look fancy at all, I've seen Martha Steward use it, and she even had someone on that showed how to make babyfood. All she did was boil or steam yams, potatoes, fruit, etc. and then pureed it through the hand held food mill. I think she even used icecube trays to store the food.

Re: Baby Food
YOu can get a $30 mini-chopper and they work great plus the bowl is small and it doesn't take up much room.

Re: Baby Food
Hmmm...you guys, I forgot to mention that I'm still living in a 'temporary' situation, so that's what makes my life harder in the kitchen - all of my stuff is in storage, so I'm 'getting by' with borrowing pots and pans and other items from my Mom. I cannot wait to get settled in the new house!
Edited to ask - does the food mill grind meats, too?

Re: Baby Food
A friend of mine loves making her own baby foods, and swears by this book called 'Super Baby Food'. Has lots of great ideas. I plan to buy it.
Anna I looked at this book when I was prego too. This review turned me off to it:
A little too 'Natural' for me, November 2, 1999 Reviewer: Maureen Edwards from Richmond, Virginia I carefully researched many baby cookbooks and decided to purchase this one based on customer comments. I was disappointed to find I wouldn't eat, nor have on hand many of the items she recommended to feed my baby. Dessicated powdered liver? Brewers yeast? Whole grains only from natural food stores? Nut and seed milk? This is a great book if you are already a natural food buyer and a vegetarian, but NOT if you are an average mom who goes to a regular grocery store, and God forbid, eats red meat occasionally. Having a baby changes your life enough!! If I complied with all of her recommendations, I would have to completely change my family's eating habits and where we shop. Is it possible to make baby food that is healthy, yet is more accomodating to our lifestyle?

Re: Baby Food
KP - thanks for posting that review...I was going to look into this book, but you have convinced me that it's not for me. I TOTALLY would never have any of that stuff in the house! LOL!

Me either. I try to eat healthy but I dont buy weird things. Emma gets plain things before salt and seasonings are added.
