Baby shower spinoff...

Baby shower spinoff...

Would you rather go to a baby or bridal shower in someone's home or at a restaurant? Why?

I just went to a few showers at restaurants and I have to say I liked it better than the house. There was plenty of comfortable seating, plenty of food and drinks I like and I didn't feel like I had to help out. At other peoples homes Im always like, oh would you like me to help you wash the dishes, serve the food etc...

As the shower recipient the only thing that stinks about that is getting your presents to your house..

The last shower I went to I suggested getting a roll off to fill with gifts and drive home. I don't know how many SUVs they had to stuff - it was amazing the quantity she got.

But Id say restaurant.

i'd rather go to any type of shower at someone's home. i've been to a shower at a restaurant and you kind of feel rushed, but its easier b/c there is virtually no clean up. i'd prefer to have my shower at someone's house

Funny question because I've been thinking of it since I've recently been invited to a few - you know, what I would want when it's my turn.

We had one of my best friends showers (actually bridal & baby) at her inlaws house, pretty much in the yard (both times I believe were early October) and they were great. Weather was perfect and there was lots of room outside.

About a year ago I went to one held in a conf room at the Hilton Garden Inn (I think that's the name, near MacArthur) and I thought the room was a good size and it's nice to have staff around instead of fending for yourself.

So in conclusion, I have no idea!!!

I really dislike showers of any kind at restaurants or halls. I prefer showers that are hosted in someone's home. I feel more like a participant and guest than simply an audience member.

I also feel like I can help out more.

See, I thought this too...when I threw my aunt's wedding shower, I insisted on having it in my mother's house because I thought restaurants were so cheesy. But it snowed (it was April! ) and we were all stuck inside. Plus it there was the clean up and the cost and the planning and the trying to gauge how much food we needed. Now that she's pregnant, I'm trying to plan her baby shower, and I'm leaning towards restaurant Plus, I'm planning long distance...

If you're planning long distance, do it at a restaurant. It will just be easier in the long run. Even though I'm not a fan of restaurant showers, I went to one recently and had a great time.

I guess it's because my family doesn't do the restaurant thing... we always descend on my parents house. Mr Boots family is like that too.

If the restaurant is more practical than do that. Practicality is what counts.

I think I might. Her in-laws aren't the type to appreciate a home-thrown anyway...and I'm not sure my mom wants them in her house again!

If I had the $ Id always have it in a restaurant because theres no clean up. Id feel bad asking someone to have it in their home. My mom always has it at her house and Im amazed how she stressed and scrubs and cleans etc... I feel so bad.

See, it's people like that who make me furious. Having it at a restaurant or a hall doesn't make it better... it makes the people who insist upon it seem obnoxious!

Have it at a restaurant because that's what you want or whatever, but not because it adds 'class'.

The whole concept of 'class' just annoys me!

i completely agree, liz. chris family is the hall type of family - actually its the vfw in farmingdale, not exactly the Ritz. they think it makes the event better - but if its a shower for 50 people, do they want to be spread out in a big room where they can't even talk to the guest of honor? it annoys me

I went to one in a home & I liked it much better than the other ones I had been to. Maybe if I didn't know the people, I may be uncomfrotbale in their home, but this was my college roomate & I'd stay at her mom's house before. It also helps that they have a big house & yard.

It was nice to be able to mingle & not just sit with the 2 people I came with, like I did at the bridal shower I went to Saturday.

My shower was at a restaurant-I think my mom thougt she didn't have enough room, but then we had a ( co-ed) post-shower party at home, which was great.

I've been to both and I prefer home showers. It just seems more intimate and personal. If you're going to do it at a hall, then keep it kind of casual. I hate when parties are stuffy.

I am not really a shower person in general, but I much prefer the ones at home. I feel like it is more intimate too, and you don't feel rushed to leave when it is winding down.

I would have to say home. It's generally more intimate and comfortable. That's if I know the person well. If not, then I think I prefer the restaurant.
