My mom, MIL, and 2 sisters are planning my shower, of which I have full knowledge and such, so it isn't a surprise. My mom tells me today that they are going to book it for the first weekend in May. I am due May 25th. I thought this was close, but then again, I am sure that's fine. I just wanted to get opinions on how far in advance of your EDD your shower was held.

Re: Baby Shower timing
I'm due April 29th and had my shower in NY over christmas week, then my company is throwing me another shower March 20th. I think you'll be fine, personally Ilike things early so I have enough time to get things ready...JMO

Re: Baby Shower timing
I was due May 10th, and my shower was held on March 24th. I think you might want to ask them to schedule the shower a little bit earlier - you need time to sift through all the gifts, do any returns of duplicate items, and then launder everything before you go to the hospital! God forbid you go early (it's rare, but can happen!), you don't want to leave knowing the baby's room is unprepared!

Re: Baby Shower timing
I'm due April 30th and I think my shower is going to be on 4-3 or 4-10. March would have been ideal but my husband is paranoid with the snow! He's scared that with our luck the day of my shower it will snow 20+ inches. Most of his family lives in Suffolk, my family lives in the city and we live in Putnam so everyone would have to drive!
I personally would like to have it sooner, because I want to start washing everything and get the baby's room set up.

Re: Baby Shower timing
Claud, LOL, knowing my DH, the baby's room will still be unprepared!! He's just the biggest procrastinator its not funny. BUt he usually pulls through in the end.
The reason the first weekend in May came about is because my MIL will be away for 10 days at the end of April, my youngest sister is away at college in Boston and if we move it any earler in April, we run into Easter.
I was married on May 11th and my bridal shower was March 3rd. I guess I was thinking they'd do it with that same 2 month time frame. Oh well, this baby better not come too early, because its momma won't be ready (although it would be nice to have an anniversary baby!).

Re: Baby Shower timing
I was 32 weeks at my shower. I agree with the other ladies - the earlier the better. You will have alot of returns, plus more buying to do once you see what you got/ didn't get. Then you may want to wash some of the clothes, oganize the drawers, set up crib bedding etc, etc.

Re: Baby Shower timing
I dont think that is too close, lots of grandmas seem to like to wait till your in your 8th or 9th month and a lot of my friends said its less time of having to store all the boxes all over if it is closer to your EDD
I have no direct experience...but my cousin had her shower 1 month before she was due...and all worked out...
a friend last year was to have her shower 5 weeks before...and she delivered 6 weeks early...so you just never know what can happen...(btw...we had a 'shower' after the birth...but before the baby was allowed to come home)

Re: Baby Shower timing
My shower will be at 36 wks. I didn't have much of a choice because of some things that happened (that I am still ticked about.) Actually, since we had to cancel the first one, I almost had to have the shower at 37-38 wks because places were booked already. We ended up getting lucky though. I am sure everything will be fine...

Mine is going to be sometime in April I think . So anywhere from 4-6 weeks before I'm due.

Re: Baby Shower timing
They had mine 2 months in advance. It gave me plenty of time to evaluate all the gifts - decide if I was returning anything- and see if I wanted to make any changes. Also, there was time to shop for the things we needed that may not have been purchased.

Re: Baby Shower timing
Mine was Aug. 2 and my DD was Sept. 9 (but I went early and had Gianna on 9/4)!!! Like Elizabeth said, plenty of time to go through stuff and return things you don't need -- which you will be doing and then some!!!!

Re: Baby Shower timing
Thank you all so much for your replies. I am going to discuss the timing issue with my mom and sister agaion this weekend, but I have a feeling it will be a mute point. They waited too long, it's almost February and they haven't booked a place, got a guest list together or sent out invites. It will be a full 4-5 weeks before my EDD so I'll make the best of it! Thanks!

Re: Baby Shower timing
My shower was almost 4 weeks ago… and I was given a range for a due date (1/25 – 2/4). I thought it was cutting it a bit close, but it actually worked out great. Her room is all set up and I think we have everything we need…
