Baby's room layout-what would you do?

Baby's room layout-what would you do?

Hi all

I am trying to set up Lukes new room and I basically have 2 choices on where to put his crib. One spot the crib can be centered on the wall and it looks really nice there. When you come into the room, it is the wall that is on your right so when the door is open, he looks straight out into the hall and then down into the living room. He has a nice view of part of the living room and can see you going into any room on the 2nd floor. The other choice is when you come in the room, it is in the far corner to your left, so he's nowhere near the door.

So my question is - do you think it's ultimately better to have his crib where he can or cant see what's going on outside the bedroom? I can see the negatives and positives to both set ups. I think the crib looks nicer in the first set up but it's also the wall we share, our bedroom is the other side and we have our TV on that wall. I'm not sure and before we put up shelves and other wall hangings, I need to decide. If I take some pics (and can upload! I've been having trouble with it) I will post them.

What does everyone think?

My only issue with putting the crib near the door is when you want him to go to sleep in his crib and you leave the door open to hear for him he will pop up every time he sees someone walk by, on the other hand you can check on him every time you walk by. tough choice! Just make sure you are away from windows. Otherwise I would do what looks best

Is he a sound sleeper or do noises wake him up? Sharing a wall with your bedroom / TV area might cause him to wake up at night if you watch much TV in there at night. Also, I'd think it might be better if he doesn't see what's going on outside the door, because if he's in his crib you may not want him distracted. Tough choice, but I'd go with what's practical over what looks best. Better that his bedroom function well over looking good.

I can see your dliemma, and I vote for function over look, with the other girls.

When you want him to sleep, it's probably better for him not to be able to see much, except for the insides of his eye lids!

At night your baby's room door should be closed. After seeing a Fire Safety program on Dateline/20-20 I learned that an open room door in a fire can cause a crib to get sooo hot that a child would be injuried more quickly then if the door was shut.
I would close the door and use a baby monitor. JMO.

I would lean more toward setting up so that Lukie can sleep w/o too many disruptions. It will make your life alot easier.
