BACK FROM GREECE (with pics!) *EDIT: pics are below- there are LOTS!)
I had the most fabulous honeymoon in Greece!!
A summary of our trip:
3 nights in Athens:
-Stayed at the Electra Palace hotel with a rooftop pool/ rooftop restaurant with a perfectly clear view of the Acropolis: spectacular when it is all lit up at night!
-Did a 1/2 day tour of the city of Athens where we got to see the Acropolis/ Parthenon, the location of the first Olympics, and many other old ruins.
-Ate dinner on a mountain (Mt. Lycabetus)- the highest point in Athens city.
-Ate the best Soulvaki (what we know of as a Gyro) I've ever had in my life, and the best gelato (and I've been to Italy twice- this place topped it)
4 nights in Myconos Island:
-Stayed at the Royal Myconian Hotel: most beautiful hotel ever- its on a hill on the beach, and an amazing pool- with a balcony in our room overlooking both. The beach had a private section just for hotel guests with lounge chairs and drink servers, and the restaurant at this hotel was AMAZING. Plus some of the nicest friendliest people on their staff. There was also a gorgeous spa.
-Partied in the town til 4am with some crazy people
-snorkled and went tubing on the beach
-had a Thalasso spa treatment (which includes water massages)
-took a ferry over to the ancient island of Delos and saw some more really old ruins (it was an island deserted for thousands of years until archeologists started uncovering it in the late 1800s)
5 nights on Santorini Island:
-Another fabulous hotel: Astra Apartments: a smaller hotel with a specacular view of the water on our balcony. The brought you breakfast to your room everyday (and each breakfast came with a different greek dessert) The manager George was GREAT- he passed us watching the sunset one night and had a bottle of champagne sent to us with strawberries and DELICIOUS chocolate truffles! Plus we had a bottle of wine already in our room upon arrival andthe room was decorated with flower petals! Our hotel room was a little apartment with a kitchen, living room, and the bedroom was up on a loft.
-We took a sunset cruise around Santorini
-Toured a volcano
-swam in the hot springs
-went wine tasting
-went to a black beach and a red beach
-rode donkeys uphill
-climbed up a steep rock that used to be a village
-did a lot of shopping
-ate at amazing restaurants either up on cliffs looking the water or down in the port- where the fishing boats are- we saw the places where Sisterhood of the Traveling pants was filmed.
-went bar hopping one night to some really fun places
-saw the most beautiful sunset i've ever seen.
I would DEFINITELY recommend Greece for honeymooners!
