Back from my HM - w/PICs

I can't believe it's all over already - it def went by too quickly. The wedding was amazing, truly the best day of my life, and the HM was so wonderful - I just wish it didnt' have to end so soon. Anyone staying at Excellence Riviera Cancun, you have nothing to worry about, it was absolutely beautiful, everyone was fantastic and friendly. We had 88 degree sunny days everyday. The only bad thing was DH was sick for the first three days - turns out he had a bacterial infection, but we were still able to enjoy ourselves. But now it's back to reality.

i should have said it earlier, DH was actually starting to feel sick the night before we left, and he just got worse. the real kicker though was we did they hydrotherapy session at the spa, and the hot water, steam room, and sauna only made the infection worse. we thought it was a cold, but it was actually a bacterial infection, so all that heat made it a lot worse. the dr was great and gave him antibiotics, so by the next night we was feeling much better.

here is a little mini review of the resort that I fm'd to a fellow 08er. both DH and I were very happy w/ the resort, and the only thing that would have made our HM better would have been if DH was healthy the entire time. we would go back there in a heartbeat!

We had a junior oceanview suite. We had also read on trip advisor that the corner rooms were a bit bigger, so we requested a corner room, and they gave it to us. We could not have been happier with our choice to go there. We did tip here and there. The martini bar makes the best drinks, and tip them once, and they remember you the rest of the time! At the bars you did see people tip, but there were times when we didn't, and our service was not lessened in anyway. The staff is all super nice and friendly. They will call you Mrs (new last name) and it's nice to hear, but took getting some used to. The resort is also really really clean. We're early birds, and walking to breakfast you saw people cleaning things like the elevator, the bar rails, every morning. The food was all very good, but we only had dinner at two different restaurants - the steakhouse and the asian restaurant, spice. We're pretty picky eaters, and the food at most of the other restaurants was a bit too fancy for us. The pizza/pasta place is just OK, but we're also new yorkers, so you get used to better quality pizza and pasta. The pool by the spa is the nicest pool, and it's also salt water. It goes all the way around the spa, so you can be on your floater and float like it's a lazy river. That pool, and the pool w/ the bar fill up very quickly, so you have to try to get there early. The pool closest to our room was always empty, but it was nice to unwind there. The beach is divided between the excellence club section, and the regular guest section. Both are equal, but the water by the excellence club section is nicer. On the 'regular' guest side, there's a TON of rock on the ocean floor, so it hurts your feet. A pier separates the sections, so go to the other side of the pier (or stay if you're in the excellence club) and there are hardly any rocks. Very odd how that worked out.

Let's see, what else. There is a bar called XLounge that is very romantic - it's only opened at night, and it's all beds so you can lay under the stars. We went around 830 and had no problem waiting, but sometimes you can wait.

The only downside are the beds - they are a bit hard, and the linens could have been softer, but it's really not a big deal. The shower is amazing. Easily fits two people. When you walk in, you see the tub immediately, then there are two doors - one for the toilet, one for the shower. The tub and shower are a lot of fun. One problem with the rooms are the ants. People talk about it on trip advisor, and we really didnt' 'have a problem, but we did see a few. They leave a rose in a vase, and a single rose on the sink - the one on the sink attracted the ants, so we threw it away, and they stopped putting the roses there, and the ants went away. We also had a problem w/ the AC, and they fixed it, but it's still tricky to work. The DR on the premises was good - expensive, but at least DH was able to enjoy the rest of the trip.

we took over 500 pics, so i'll def be posting more, or at least adding them to my album, i just need to go through them all. DH is very snap happy

we didn't upgrade to the excellence club. i thought about it before we left, but it was so much more $$, and a lot of reviews i read said it wasn't worth it. for us, the only benefit would have been a closer oceanview. the excellence pool is OK, the other pools are actually much nicer. also, they have the tub on the balcony, and it's not very private, there's a curtain that hangs in front of it, but the wind blows and you can see everything. i'm not sure what other perks the club people got, but we were very happy with our room and all the service we got.
