Back from Vermont - Review of an Inn with Pics

So a lot of people have mentioned the desire to go away on a quick weekend trip somewhere within a few hours of the city. This past weekend FH and I booked a very romantic weekend up at The Deerhill Inn in West Dover Vermont to de-stress from life and celebrate my birthday.

We got turned on to this inn because my mother and aunt had gone there to celebrate their birthday (they're twins) a couple of years ago. They recommended it because they said it was more of a romantic spot than a sister-sister bonding spot.

Mount Snow is a few minutes away from the inn so you can go skiing. About 15 minutes away from the inn is a HUGE and beautiful national forest where you can go hiking. And within 30 minutes there are two towns with lots of little shops and artsy fartsy kind of things going on. During the summer they also have a pool in the backyard. There's also horseback riding and some museums nearby. And they have lots of packages themed with food and wine, relaxing (with massages), and even some wedding packages. We didn't partake in any of the activities because we spent the weekend sleeping, eating, studying, and watching movies.

On to the pictures!! (FYI, all food pictures are from their website and everything else I took with my really sh*tty camera)

Day one!

Driving:

FH drove the whole way both ways. We live in Rockland County and it took us about 3 hours and 15 minutes to get up to the inn. From NYC that will probably translate to 4 hours. Google Map said it would take longer than that (about 4 hours from my house), and FH is not really a speed demon, so I guess it's just less time than what they said.

Some sugar:

When we got to the Inn we were both really tired and a little hungry. The first thing I noticed (because the liberal foodie that I am) was that they had a sign up that said that they were part of a collective that uses local products. So all of their food came from local farms and shops. Right away they were trying to give us food. They had a gift store which doubles as a lounge with fruit and cheese and drinks:

We didn't have any because when we got to our room there was also bottled water, fruit, and home made cookies.

We opted to have some wine, cheese and apples, that my mom had given us told hold us over until dinner time.

We sat next to the fireplace (which we ran all weekend. The room was warm, but we just liked to have the fire burning).

After that and a quick nap we got ready for dinner. The inn has a restaurant attached so we bought dinner packages for both nights that we were there. We got appetizer, salad, dinner, and dessert for a pretty good price.

We were a little over dressed for Vermont but it was about the experience.

Isn't he so GQ?

The food was EXCELLENT. I really cannot stress enough how good it was. One of the two men who own the inn is a gourmet chef. So he creates the menu and he and his staff cook everything. And because everything is all natural and comes from small local farms the quality of the food is amazing and everything is so fresh!

Every meal we ate so much that we had to be rolled to our room and then laid comatose for a good 15 minutes because we were so full. But it was so good we couldn't help but eat!

Day Two!

The next morning we had breakfast in bed. Breakfast is included in each package, but we paid the extra $15 to have it brought to our room, just to have the full R&R experience.

After that we took a shower. We had a big bathroom with a double jacuzzi, which was just big enough to fit the both of us.

We spent the day inside studying (we're both students (me for my MA and him for his AD) and had homework). At lunch time the other owner and innkeeper came up (we were sitting and kept moving around the various lounges) and asked if we wanted lunch. So he got us coffee and tea and scones and fruit.

They also had a lot of games and movies we could have played/watched too. And they had a great WiFi connection that ran throughout the whole house (although cell phone service throughout the entire town was horrible).

Dinner again was another amazing meal. This time we were the only two people in the restaurant because it's off season and everyone from Saturday had gone home. That made it really romantic and quiet. Because on Sunday and Monday we were the only people at the inn we got a lot of special attention and were literally catered to on hand and foot. We felt really rich.

Day Three!

For breakfast the next day we had it in the restaurant because we had to leave early to get home for things.

Just like the dinners both breakfasts were amazing. Fresh country food. You order the main part of your meal, drinks, and a side or two, and then they also bring you a seasonal fruit plate and THE BEST MUFFINS YOU EVER ATE IN YOUR LIFE. Monday, because it was my birthday, they even brought out my food on a special birthday plate and tried to put candles in my pancakes. They melted, but it was still a cute gesture.

One thing we thought was really nice was that once everyone left and the rooms were clean they left all of the rooms open so we could walk in and out of them. They all had their own character and each room had a journal in it with different thoughts that past guests had left dating back to 2002. It was fun to read them and then leave our own in our journal.

Overall the weekend was a 10/10! I really recommend the Deerhill Inn for anyone looking to get away for a romantic and relaxing weekend. If you're interested here is the website.

Here are a few more pictures of the view from our window and also what the neighborhood looks like in April (ie. lots of snow, trees, and historical homes).

I'm scared of BnBs too, but this place was a little bit bigger so while it had a very homey feel, it was very private and well run like a hotel.

We'll definitely go back. And I think we're going to send my parents there for a weekend as their parents/wedding gift.

Thanks, it was really nice.

They gave me a book with a lot of other places all over the country. I'm thinking that if we have the money I may try to convince FH to go to the Jersey shore or somewhere else on the coast for a weekend this summer. If not then we should take our double dates down to the beach!

It made me want to have my wedding there too! And they do have wedding packages. Oh well. Maybe we'll go for a honeymoon if we can't afford to do a bigger trip right away.
