So I just started my first nursing job three weeks ago and it has definetly been stressful but today was the worst. So much was going on and I kept asking myself why did I go into nursing. I have the next two days off and thank goodness b/c I need it. Sorry to be a bummer but I needed to vent. Anyone else evr dislike their jobs?

Re: Bad day at work
I am a high school teacher and sometimes I wonder why. But fortunately, there are many more good and rewarding days than there are bad ones! But sometimes I wonder why I didn't go into nursing. I guess the grass is always greener!

I think EVERYONE can say the same thing.. We ALL have bad days, and good days too. Hang in there, you'll be rewarded in the longrun!!!!

Re: Bad day at work
my mom is a nurse and she has always told us how hard the work is but she loves helping people. Doctors are there to heal but the nurses are there to help. I remember how tired she would be from work but it is worth it. She has been in nursing since the 70's. Hang in there all jobs suck in the begining just don't lose sight of why you went into the profession. Good luck with your new job and sorry your day was so bad.

Re: Bad day at work
I'm a middle school guidance counselor and actually said to someone today that each day I come to work I want to do it less and less. That's not really true, I love my job and LOVE the kids, but it was one of those days. We go into these professions for a reason, to help people. Unfortunately it's not always rewarding and often thankless. Hang in there and enjoy your days off!!

OH wow... you are soooooo not alone with hating your job sometimes! I'm in retail (until I graduate in Dec) and sometimes I want to run screaming out the door

Re: Bad day at work
i am an assistant principal in nyc, which i love, but i often wonder why i left the classroom. i miss the teaching aspect of my job and HATE the paperwork i have to do now! when u work with kids or patience, you often dont 'see' the results of your efforts right away. Thats why we get an automatic ticket to heaven!!!

Re: Bad day at work
My best friend is a nurse- she just left her old hospital a few months ago and she really regrets it now, because the new hospital she works in is very political and its all about seniority rather than performance (she's not down with all the favoritism). She's desperate to leave where she is now, but I've tried talking her into staying at least until after her wedding (she's getting married a month after me). But at least the great thing about nursing is, nurses are so in demand that even if you aren't really tenured and you leave your job, you know you will find another position quickly.
Try to hang in there, build up your experience a little more.......when your there 6 months if you still hate it, start applying elsewhere!! My friend has received some great sign on bonuses through nursing- that would be great right before your wedding!!
I hope it gets better!

Cheer up, things will get better..........here, have a hug...
I understand how you feel. I just started a new position last month. It's hard in the beginning, but once you get into the swing of things, it'll be fine. Hang in there!!!

Re: Bad day at work
I'm an elementary school music teacher -which sounds like a load of fun....until you meet some of my kids! So yes, I have good days and then some really bad days. But there are days where kids just 'click' and they suddenly got something you've been drilling in their heads for months....and then it's all worth it. I'm sure nursing will have days just like that. Maybe not you teaching, but a patient who is super appreciative or dr or anything of the like. It's the few good days that sometimes make it all worth it!

Re: Bad day at work
I can relate and have had many moments/days at work that have challenged my resolve. Bad days happen, no matter if you love, like or tolerate what you do for a living. Sometimes just being new compounds everything. Hang in there --

Don't feel so bad they are interviewing people for my position and that's why they sent me to our other office at JFK. Isn't that nice ...like i wasn't going to find out.. I might be out of a job soon.
