Bad Luck

Call me crazy, but lately since i have been doing my planning, i've been coming across alot of couples that take pictures before their wedding ceremony, and I went to a wedding this weekend where the bride, and groom came together to the ceremony....
I thought it was bad look to see the groom the day of the wedding before the ceremony..Can someone please explain, or just give an opinion.

Re: Bad Luck

a lot of people are forgoing tradition for convenience. A lot of people want to get the pictures taken ahead, so they can enjoy the rest of the night.

For me, I can not wait to see FH's face as I walk down the aisle

I don't think it's a bad luck.
I am planning to see each other before the ceremony.
My ceremony at 11.15 and then my cocktail hour right after my ceremony.
so I want to enjoy my cocktail hour and I can enjoy the rest of my day.

when i first heard this i thought no way!

but the idea is starting to grow on me.... we want to get the reception started early, since it is sunday, so it would help to get some of the pics out of the way....

plus, i know i am going to be so nervous and wacko that day, and usually the only person who can make me feel better is fh, so it might help with my sanity to see him before the wedding...

still not sure yet....

The tradition of not seeing your groom started in eastern countries where there was arranged marriages and the couple would not meet until they were about to be wed. They did this to prevent either one of them from backing out beforehand.

With this in mind, I don't feel so bad about breaking tradition, since we're not having an arranged marriage!!

That and we really don't want to miss the entire CH or part of the reception because of pictures. Nor do we want our family to have to kill 2 or 3 hours worth of time between the ceremony and reception while we take pictures. We've all heard how the day flies, so I want to try to enjoy as much of it as I can!!

I know many people who see their FH before their ceremony just because there is no time to take their pics otherwise...if that is what you need to do..don't worry

I'm with you on this one. We enjoyed our whole CH and reception. My photographer even suggested getting all dolled up and taking pics ahead of time another day to get great portraits and have no time constraints. I vetoed that, but only out of practicality. I didn't want to pay to get my hair and makeup done twice!

FH and I plan to take most of our pics before the ceremony so that we can celebrate with our guests!! We are still going to set it up so that when he sees me for the first time it is still amazing...and caught on tape!!

I was totally against this at first too!!! But now it seems like the only logical thing to do since our CH starts immediately following the ceremony!!

i am sticking with tradition. I am gonna take my pics during the CH, because my Ch is out doors so I will be near by to pop in and out.

I'm very untraditional! I want my pictures taken and almost done while there is still daylight out. Afterwards when all the possing is done joe and I can go on with the ceremony and reception. Its so much more convient and it saves time and money. I don't believe in luck and I think tradition is nice for those who want it.

I cant wait to see the look on my FI face when the door of the church open & I walk down the asile. I am such a traditionalist.

We're bucking tradition as well. At first I was not crazy about the idea, but I thought about the fact that we're paying for our wedding and I don't want to miss a second of the party...even the CH! We will see each other before the ceremony to take pictures, but we are going to make it special when we see each other for the first time. I think it will still be a very special and emotional moment when I walk down the aisle, even if I already saw FH earlier in the day.

Also, I am Catholic and FH is Jewish, so we're already throwing 'tradition' out the window with our interfaith marriage!!

I think the moment the videographer catches when we see each other for the first time (without everyone being there) is going to be even more special. We are going to be able to act like ourselves give any say or do anything we want.

Also we are paying for the entire wedding by ourselves, there is no way we want to miss the cocktail hour.

Yes, Jewish brides and grooms HAVE to see each other before the ceremony - dates back to Old Testament times in a ceremony called a bedeken:

'The custom of bedeken recalls the predicament of Jacob, our forefather, who thought he was marrying Rachel only to discover, after the ceremony, that he had married Leah. The tradition now is that a chatan (groom) and kallah (bride) see each other before the ceremony thereby avoiding such confusion.'

This is also why a Jewish bride must have a veil covering her face as she walks down the aisle.
