Bad News for me...

Original post by LisaW

Well, I haven't been feeling well for the last few weeks, and then my AF was late which NEVER happens. Saturday morning, as a fluke, I decided to take an HPT. Much to my dismay, it came up positive IMMEDIATELY. HUH? One tube is gone, the other is cauterized. Ran to Duane Reade and bought an array of tests, all positive. I'm thinking that its a miracle...

I called Cornell ( my IVF clinic) and they told me to come in Monday morning for bloodwork. Once I got there I also asked for an ultrasound. The Dr on duty, which was a fellow(intern?), did not see anything. The more I thought about it, I KNEW something wasn't right...I INSISTED that she send me to the radiological place for a better scan. She finally relented, but not before she insisted I take a urine test to 'document'...I've never known anyone at Cornell to have to take a urine test! Even the tech doing the test was like ***???? I know she thought I was crazy! Again, immediately positive.

Anyway, I get an appt at the place for a scan at 3:45, the soonest they had. It is 10am. After hours of sitting in Cornell's waiting room (had no where to go, felt sick and was exhausted), its finally my time for the scan. Well, the guy took 600 freaking pictures. All he kept saying is that I don't see anything in your uterus or in your tube. I'm starting to feel relieved b/c I thought it was a tubal pregnancy, which is extremely dangerous. As he's scanning, the phone rings. Its the HEAD guy wanting to know if he's is done, he needs to come talk to me. HUH????? Apparently Cornell called, my beta (blood pg test) came back extremely high...11,000!!!!!! (Beta's when you are first pg are usually anywhere from 50 to a few hundred) To me that means that this is not a new pregnancy after my last AF. I believe that I got pg from my last IVF and it was missed. How could that possibly happen??? The head guy comes to talk to me and tells me they see 'something' they believe to be an ectopic pregnancy ON TOP of my uterus. ON TOP OF THE OUTSIDE OF MY UTERUS? WHAT?!!!

SO, they send me back to Cornell and I'm just about hysterical at this point, call DH to meet me there (thank G-d he didn't hop on the train home yet!). In the hallway at Cornell there are a bunch of Dr's waiting for the elevator and they all look at me and say, ' Are you Lisa W?? They are waiting for you!'. Never a good sign!!!!

Anyway, they tell me to come back in the morning and they will do more b/w and u/s and decide what to do. I was told not to eat or drink anything after midnite. So it's either surgery or a shot of methotrexate to disolve the pregnancy.

Well, my blood levels went up to 14,000 this morning so it was still growing. My Dr said after all I've been through he would try to hold off on surgery unless I opted for it (yeah right!). So, I got a shot of methatrexate and have to go back on Friday to check if my levels are decreasing. Please pray that they do.

The more I thought about this whole thing, the more positive I was that this is from my last IVF. The whole ride in to the city I was getting angrier and angrier b/c I was sure that they would try to deny that or not give me a definitive answer.

Well, much to my Dr's credit, the first thing he said to me was that he was pretty certain that this pregnancy was late implantation from the last IVF. The embryo must have been extremely viable and tenacious. He said that this is extremely rare. I get this but can't hit lotto??

So, I've basically been pg since August and had no idea. Thank goodness I did that hpt. The ectopic could have ruptured and I could have died. I think I am still in shock...

Re: Bad News for me...

Thanks everyone. I don't think it has hit me yet that I was actually 2 months pregnant and had no freaking idea...

Well, I guess the good news is that I can actually get pregnant. After almost 3 years, 2 IUI's and 4 IVF's I was starting to wonder if it ever COULD happen.

I am STILL in shock...

It's just crazy.

I go back tomorrow. Please pray my numbers drop or I might need surgery...
