bad week

bad week

I've waited a few days to post, but I know that someone out there has gone, or is going through this too...

It might sound hard to believe, but I don't know anyone who has had breast cancer; that is until this past week. My mom was just diagnosed with it, and I'm so scared. She has been like a rock in my family, never sick--never hurt. With the exception of having given birth, she's never been in the hospital. Learning of her condition has shaken me; I know it sounds naive, but the posibility of losing my mother has never really entered my mind.

I've been doing research and trying to learn all that I can about the diagnosis, treatment, recovery rate, but it just doesn't seem real to me, so I'm turning to you because I'm sure that some of you have dealt with this in your lives. As I said before, I don't know anyone whose had breast cancer. What should we expect? What was your experience. If you're willing to share, I'd really appreciate it.

TIA

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I think the best thing you could do is just spend as much time with your mom as possible. Be there for her as much as she has been there for you.

You never know--there is the possibility that she can COMPLETELY recover

Best wishes!

Your family is in my prayers!

Re: bad week

I am so sorry that your family is going through this. 9 years ago, this past August my aunt & godmother was diagnosed with breast cancer.... Stage 4 to be exact. She was determined to beat it. They gave her an aggressive treatment of Chemo. She was sick for a day or 2 after the treatment but went to work like normal every other day. She did lose her hair but it grew back after all her treatments were done. There was one thing I overheard my aunt telling someone....

'God only gives the hard things to people who can handle it'

I wish you and your family all the best.

Re: bad week

Hearing that your mother has cancer is the worst thing anyone can ever deal with but to be completely honest with you...it might sound crazy.......breast cancer is the cancer to get if you are going to have cancer. There is such a great and high survival rate. It's better if she caught it early, but if not, there is still such great odds. Also, I know it is a huge hassle, but if someone could take her to Sloan in the city, they perform miracles like you wouldn't believe..

I know you're scared but I've known so many women who had breast cancer and it was just a rough time in their life, but they are all here today.

Good luck and you're in my prayers

Re: bad week

My grandmother beat breast cancer and so did my aunt. My grandmother just had to have her breat removed no chemo or anything. My aunt had multiple tumors in her breasts. One was milimeters away from a lymph node. She had to have both breasts removed, chemo and radiation. She had good days and bad days but was determined to beat it and she did. Never give up hope. You and your family are in my prayers. Also Sloan-Kettering is the best place to go. They have the most up to date cancer care.
