Has anyone been to a wedding where there was a bag piper? I really love the way they sound, but I am not sure if it would be odd to have one, I was thinking to have them play while guests are entering the church and possibly when I am walking down the aisle.
Honest opinions, suggestions needed TIA

Re: Bag piper?
my fiance wants one tooo!! lol. His family is irish & mine is italian he said we should have a bagpiper & instead of throwing rice throw macaroni.
His mom thinks it would be loud. Ive never heard/seen one at a wedding tho. I doubt we would do it

It's actually more traditional for them to be playing outside while people are leaving the church!

ive been to a few weddings, one time they actually played at the reception, most other times though they played when the b&g were walking out of the church.
Im trying to get the fdny emerald society for our wedding as a surprise for FH

Not odd if you like it! Inis Fada Gaelic is one of the Long Island pipe bands and they 'rent' their pipers out for weddings.

My cousin did one, it was so cool. The church she got married at had a balcony in the back where the organ is and she had one up there playing when they were making their exit. It was such a surprise, as soon as the priest announced them he started playing. She booked him as a surprise for her DH, he loved it!

My FH is a volunteer fireman too and he loves bagpipers. I am getting them as a surprise for him for the wedding.
I'm having them come to the reception and play when guests are eating first course. This way they'll be seated anyway and it won't take away from dancing time.

Re: Bag piper?
I had one. Our guests were a little confused but when we explained why we had one it all made sense. We're not Scottish/Irish but we're both in Local 3 and Local 3 has their own pipe band. A good friend of mine is in the band so I asked him to play for us. It was awesome when he came in. We had the officiant announce us for the first time and then the bag piper walked down the aisle, turned around and walked us out. he continued playing while people walked out of the room (we got married at the RH). It was AWESOME and I'm so glad we had him do that for us! Such a GREAT surprise!

Re: Bag piper?
My cousin has a pipe band, they play at all our family events, march in the St. Paddy's Day parade, etc.
He also trained the Nassau Volunteer FF Pipe Band (not sure if he still does)
A few girls from here are using them, feel free to FM me if you'd like their info
