The E Coli in bagged lettuce doesn't surprise me. I don't believe they wash it as much as they claim they do or wash it well when they do wash it.

Oooh man. The whole 'what can you do?' thing doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside either. If it can only be eradicated in meat by cooking it, then how can you do the same just by washing the lettuce? They say if it's absorbed into the root system of the lettuce, washing the surface won't do a damn thing right?

It's like nothing is safe anymore.

There was a big 'expose' type thing on this prob. 2-3 weeks ago on one of those news shows.. i think it was dateline... scary thought!

I heard about this a few weeks ago...so I stopped buying bagged lettuce....I then started to by the whole romaine lettuce and would cut it up myself....but after a few weeks of that nonsense I got lazy and decided I'd take my chances with the e. coli. SO far so good!

The scariness continues!! Did anyone hear about the e. coli outbreak with bagged spinach?

I heard about that on the news this morning, too!!! It's not safe to eat anything anymore!!!!!
