For those who have had/are having bagpipers play at your wedding, when is the best time to have them come? We're having guest singers for the church, so I don't really want to drown them out with bagpipers, so I'm leaning towards reception, but do they do it at dinner? Or is that too much goin on? Any suggestions? Does the DJ usually plan that stuff?
TIA

We're having them come in right after we eat, I believe and have them play a few tunes at the reception.
Engaged and Excited is having them at her reception as well and Johnny&Maur had them at theirs.

I was thinking about having bagpipers play at my wedding because my FH is a FDNY. I was thinking about having them at the church after the ceremony or at the hall. How much is it costing you.

I had a bagpiper outside the church during the receiving line. People thought it was a great touch.

We're getting a deal since my FH's dad is in the FDNY pipe band but, I think it's usually around $200 per piper.

My father is a piper he charges around $150 (depending on where you live) We live in Bethpage, so if he had to travel way out in Suffolk it would be a bit more. if you want more details FM me.

Yes, I am having them too! My dad plays. I would definatley NOT suggest doing it during dinner--I think it would be very distracting and everyone tends to turn and look which would be annoying while they are trying to eat. Especially if you are having alot of them. Anytime after or before would probably be fine though.

my friend had it- it was nice the first 1-2-3 songs...after 5 songs i had a migraine and i was very annoyed.. i felt like it took away from the wedding.. my suggestion it to have them play maybe before dinner after your first dance or after the best man speech- 3 songs max

We're having them outside of the church, as guests are leaving.

After we were pronouced Man & Wife and we had 'the Kiss', our bagpiper came in from the back of the church and lead us back down the aisle. Then he played off to the side of the church during the receiving line.

We are having it at my wedding. My dad plays for the NYPD Pipes and Drums, so they will be there during the reception. They played at my sisters wedding also, after dinner which is when they'll play at mine. They play a few songs, I'd say 5-8. Some of them run into another though. I don't think it takes away from the wedding at all. Actually for us, it will add to it. Since my dad's NYPD, my FH is a firefighter, and we have a huge irish family, it will be an honor for them to be there. At my sister's wedding, there were about 40 pipers and drummers. Honestly, it was amazing. People were in tears they sounded so good.
Let the hall know that you will be having them and set a time for them to play, typically sometime after dinner. Let the DJ know also so that they can announce them.
I think it just depends on your preferences as to when, where, and how long. Good Luck!

I had them at my reception, and they played after dinner, and came after right after the band had played a few good songs. It was perfect-about 3 or 4 songs, and like someone else said, people had tears in their eyes, it was just really touching!
