Bagpipes

Bagpipes

My FH told me that some people he knows that play the bagpipes offered to play for free before our wedding at the church ... of course i immediately made a face - im not the biggest fan of bagpipes. I just find them very loud .. but FH thinks they're really prestigious so i know he would like it. Since they'd be playing before the ceremony - i personally wouldn't have to hear it. But all the guest would when they walked in - would you want to hear this while walking in to a church? Am i the only one that doesnt like them?

Hmmm. I am not sure. I think they might wonder about it. Are you or FH Irish? My FH proposed to me on St Patrick's Day, in Gaelic (but is not irish - we were in Savannah GA, a big st pats party), and we thought about getting married around st pats ... but aside from that time of year, if you are not irish, it may not make much sense to guests.

Oh, he's a cop? (Is that what you mean by PD?) That makes *total* sense!

hes not - but he works there and lots of his family are .. so this is customary in his world - just not mine... but i feel like so much of the wedding is my ideas and likes - im guessing i should let him have this.

My uncle plays the pipes and we are definately having them at our wedding. If your not crazy about them, I wouldnt do it. However, when he plays them, he plays outside the church off to the side so that as your walking in and inside the church you hear them. IMO If your only having a few pipers or even one, it wont be so bad. It sets a nice ambiance inside the church as your guests wait.

yea its not a big deal its loud I am not going to say it is not but if he is just outside for when the guests walk in its a nice touch.

I have issues if people just had a piper because they think its cute. It should be police, fd, military, scott, english and lastly irish related.

Just for anyone intersted Irish people do not use bagpipes they use Uillean but its impossible to find anyone to play that in the US so people substitute the traditional Scottish pipes.
