Baked Ziti

How do I make yummy baked ziti? I know it's mozz. cheese, sauce and ziti, but mine never comes out that good. I use sauce out of a jar, and try to use more so that it's not dry. I'm not Italian, but I want to make ziti like one! Is the trick to use homemade sauce? I have no idea how to make that either!

Re: Baked Ziti

I sort of layer in mozz. cheese (cubed-i think it works better than shredded) and ricotta with the sauce and macaroni. (I use homemade sauce but I have used jar and it comes out OK too)

I mix it all together, and on the top put shredded mozz. Yummy :)
FM me if you have any ??'s

Re: Baked Ziti

I used someone's recipe they had posted on here and just added meat to it. It is delicious.
Baked Ziti
1-lb chopped meat
16 oz pkg ziti
24 ounces ricotta
1-lb shredded mozzarella
1 egg beaten
32 oz spaghetti sauce
1/4 cup grated parmesian cheese

1.Boil ziti for 8-10 minutes.Drain & rinse.
2.Cook chopped meat in seperate pan.
3.Cook sauce & add chopped meat into sauce.
4.Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
5. In a bowl, mix ziti,ricotta,mozzarella,egg and
1 1/2 cups of sauce.
6.Lightly grease 9X13 baking dish.Pour ingredients in and top with remaining sauce followed by parmesian cheese.Cover with aluminum foil.
7.Bake for 30 minutes.Let stand 15 minutes before serving.

Re: Baked Ziti

Oh, I should have mentioned, that I like plain ziti, no meat and no ricotta, just pasta, lots of mozz. cheese and sauce.

What I do is cook the ziti, mix in the sauce with the pasta, and the put one layer in a casserole dish, then sprinkle with grated mozz. cheese and then add more pasta on top and put lots more cheese on top. I bake it for about 25 min on 400F or until bubbly and baked light golden brown around the edges.

Re: Baked Ziti

I'm making baked ziti for dinner tonight.
Basically I just mix the ricotta, grated cheese, mozz, egg and ziti together with a little bit of sauce and put it in a pan. I add extra sauce on top and add shredded mozz to the top.

Re: Baked Ziti

are you really against ricotta? maybe mixing in a little will help the dryness...

also 'homemade' sauce is easy when you buy canned tomatoes....sometimes I feel jarred sauce is too thick...from the perservatives (not from the tomatoes)
