Bakery Troubles - PLEASE HELP!

Bakery Troubles - PLEASE HELP!

Hey girls,

I'm not posting to RANT just yet - but...

I got in touch with the bakery from my RH (cake is incl.) and the baker would rather communicate via e-mail. Ok. Fine.

So, I send pics of ideas and baker gets back to me and lets me know I can put my order in, gives me a list of options for seashells on cake, and tells me square is $85 additional charge. Ok.

I write back with questions, like, 'Can I taste cake?' 'Do we get a choice of filling?'

I mean, it's my one and only wedding cake and I want to have the cake 'experience.' KWIM?

I gave him a list of times I am available to meet. He writes only this back:

I can meet with you on a Friday late morning. Let me know what your upcoming Fridays look like

UMMM.. HELLO???? I WORK????

WHAT THE @#$&

What do I do?

TIA!

Wow! He doesn't seem very accommodating. I would call/email him and tell him he needs to pick a time when you are not in work. You have a right to have a tasting before you pick what you want.

Is it normal to have a tasting? Have any of you ladies ordered your cake online with the bakery? I can't believe he's SOOOO busy that he can't meet with me. I mean, I know the cake is included with my RH - I wonder if it would be different if I was ordering one and paying for it separately? I'm frustrated right now! GRRRRRR!

We did not have a cake tasting, and I honestly do not think it is typical to have one. However, you should absolutely be able to go to the bakery and sit down with someone to discuss your options.

ETA: We used the bakery our RH suggested, and had no problems with setting up an appointment on a Saturday.

We didn't have a cake tasting. To be quite honest, by the time the cake was rolled out no one wanted to eat it b/c of Cocktail hour, dinner, and then Viennese.

But you're paying for it, you should have the right to taste it.

write back and let them know you work. If they can't work it out with you, print all the emails and bring them to the person you are dealing with at your hall and tell them they have to coordinate a time for you to get a tasting. Tell them your availability.

I was told that we would be able to have a tasting at the bakeries that we will be checking out.

I'd call him and say that you really need to communicate over the phone, and if find that to be awkward, just say you don't get to check your e-mail a lot so you'd rather just set up a time right then and there on the phone.

Thanks for the advice - I'm still waiting to hear from the e-mail I sent yesterday stating that I work and maybe it was a 'miscommunication' but I am NOT avail. on Fridays, yadda yadda yadda. We'll see how it turns out.

I think there are a couple of things you can do...first I would ask your BM what the protocol is for cake tastings. Also if there are any vendor showcases where the bakery will be having their cakes there. Another thing you could do is ask the baker when you can do it during the weekend or evenings. Give him a couple of days to choose from and your availability....We didn't do a formal cake tasting, but we tasted the cakes from the RH bakery at a vendor showcase so we didn't feel like we had to....IMO if you want a tasting you should be able to have it when it is convenient for you

ITA.... he's way out of line. He needs to be more flexible.

I'd call your BM and raise hell. Tell them if this guy doesn't accommodate you that you want a different bakery and they have to either supply you with a cake OR take money off your bill so that you can pay for a cake.
When we had our E-party our cake was included from black forrest bakery (which I just had the same cake made for my birthday- the e-party cake was sooo much better)
we had the option of going there whenever we wanted and tasting the cake, but we didn't because we had had their cakes on different occasions... sometimes they were GREAT, other times they were horrible, luckily our cake was AMAZING!!!!!!!

so yea, I'd contact your BM and raise hell, or just go to the bakery, with out calling, just walk in and say 'i'd like to sample some cakes or I will raise hell and you will NEVER have another customer AGAIN'

be bitchy, be pushy, don't give in... put your foot down!

good luck!

LMAO!!! Yea i'm only a nice girl until someone p!$$e$ me off... then all hell breaks loose.
Just don't give in. you want to sample cakes, get your rear down there and sample them. sit outside the bakery until they open or walk in right before they close... like I said, threaten them, tell them if they don't accommodate you that you will go on long island weddings and bash the hell outta them!
