Baldwin

I found a nice waterfront house in Baldwin Harbor and it is School district 10, Does anyone know what school that is? Is it Baldwin high in N baldwin or is it Oceanside schools? I know certain areas of Baldwin like Silver lake are oceanside school districts...

Thanks

I live in Rockville Centre, know the baldwin area very well, and baldwin harbor is baldwin school district. IMO, dont buy in baldwin unless your going to send your kids to private school.

as a former resident of baldwin, i would say YES! the elementary schools are ok, but the high school is the pits. and, lately you can't walk down grand ave without seeing so much garbage. there has been alot of crime recently in the area. my dad was jumped and had his insulin pump ripped out from him not too long ago b/c the losers who did it thought it was a wallet.

Another former Baldwin resident here. It make me very sad to see what is happening to my former town.

The harbor is still a nice area, and the elementary schools are good. But the high school is questionable.

Baldwin is one of those towns that could go either way in the next 10 years. It's very expensive to live on Long Island, and if young couples can only afford to buy a house in a town like Baldwin, then things could start looking up in the near future.

It's a tough call!

My aunt has been a teacher at Baldwin HS for the past 25 years. She has said its unbelievable how much its been going down in the last several years..... It's a shame, because parts of Baldwin are rather nice.

A friend of mine recently went through a similar situation. She was hoping the house was in the Oceanside school district since it is literally a hop skip and jump from Oceanside. Unfortunately it isn't. My cousins attended Baldwin Schools until high school - then they went to private schools. It is sad to see the way it is deterorating, but Baldwin Harbor is nice.

i also grew up in baldwin (my mom still lives in baldwin harbor and my dad also in south baldwin with an office in baldwin) i went to public school but since i have left so much has changed. it is so hard to see what has gone on in the HS!

i still have school age little bros who go to private school.

scott, where is the house, if it is in the harbor there is a good chance i know the family or at least the house...

It was in the harbor...It was on the water too....Looked as if someone bought it, redid it and then just put it on the market.

This was the house

OMG Scott that was the house I was talking about in my earlier post !!! I saw it - not the inside but we looked at it from the outside. Too funny !

Oh ya what were you saying about the house....Did it have any property? Or was it right on the street, no side property and then the water in the back? The property looked small.

It is redone but some things to consider...

1. No driveway - it's like you are parking in your front yard. And there is a No parking sign in front so it leads me to wonder if there is no parking on the street or in front of the house or if that space is for you.
2. No back yard. The canal is your backyard. It is a nice view but we were thinking yard for kids.
3. The front door leads right into the kitchen - which is kind of strange. No hallway or anything.
4. The rooms are small but new looking.
5. There are ducks all around. Another idea when thinking of the kids if the ducks are in attack mode.
6. There was some kind of camper in the driveway next door (which had quite a bit of property) so you look out your window to a camper - not really a big deal but some people might be annoyed.

The street is so-so. The nicest thiong to me about it was that it was on the water.

Somone a couple of houses down said people have been lined up to see that house considering the price but not ONE BID yet !!!!

My friend was hoping it was in the Oceanside School District but no luck.

Hope this helps ! It couldn't hurt to go see the house.
