Are ball gowns too much for an August wedding? I'm having an outdoor ceremony/cocktail (weather permitting) and reception indoors. Let me know what you think?
Thanks.

Re: Ball Gown for a Summer Wedding
I think it's your wedding, and you should wear whatever you want. Just as long as it isn't red with white trim and looks like santa claus hah
If that is the gown you want, then why shouldn't you be able to wear it? It may be hot , yes, but its what you want :)

Re: Ball Gown for a Summer Wedding
My bestfriend had an outdoor CH at WM in August of 2007. She wore a strapless Alvina Valenta ball gown. She was a bit warm but not too much more than anyone in a full length gown.
You're so lucky you'll have an outdoor CH at WM- it's SO AMAZING!!!! Wear what you want and enjoy it.

I agree with all the above posts! Don't care about what's right or wrong or proper-- just go for it! Also if you are concerned about heat, there are many modified ball gowns out there-- ones that aren't so heavy, wihout as much fabric as you would think! There are so many ball gown styles out there that aren't what you would traditionally think of as this heavy huge dress! Good luck :)

I was thinking the same and all of the pics I've pulled from the magazines are ball gowns with a few a-line. I always wanted to wear one and will. Guess when you hear too many opinions you just begin to wonder or doubt if this is what you should wear. Will be dress shopping in 2 wks and when I find the ball gown I will post it.
Thanks for your feedback!

Re: Ball Gown for a Summer Wedding
I am in July and I am wearing a ballgown. I know it will be hot but I fell in love with the dress. I also figured that it will be cool in the church, limo, and reception hall so I will deal with the heat during the pictures.

I think you'll be fine. You're only outside a short time and then moving inside. You need to wear what you've always dreamed of wearing! And honestly, any long gown will make you hot, especially if it's tight. At least this will be 'loose' on your legs.

I think you should wear whatever dress you are comfortable in. a friend of mine wore a ball gown for her wedding in august and has no regrets!

Re: Ball Gown for a Summer Wedding
I agree with all the above. My cousins wife got married in Aug in a strapless ball gown as well w/ no regrets. It's your wedding and you only get one chance to make it perfect so if you want a ball gown, go for it.

ITA with everyone - as long as you're comfortable, you should wear whichever kind of dress you love
