Do they tend to make you look bigger than you are? I'm wondering cause i'm a little chubby, what style dress can anyone recommend?

I had the same problem!! I love ball gowns but didnt want to look huge. It really depends on your body... what shaoe you are. Anything with Pleats looked so bad on me!!

I think a-line, or princess cut, dress, that has no defined waist line is very flattering on medium to bigger sizes. Esepcially if you are short like me.

IMO...A-Line looks the best on girls with curves. When I tried on the ball gown type I looked like the stay puffed marshmallow man!!! HA!!!!

Mine is a ball gown but fitted until my hips....I have bigger hips and a smaller waist, so it accentuates (SP?) my smaller waist and hides my big hips I love it!

It depends on the type of ballgown - I've tried on ballgowns that are have a natural waist with shirring (sp?) - and i look huge in it -
The dress i am getting is a ballgown but the waist is dropped so it doesnt cover up my natural waist with material - does that make sense??

But this ballgown makes me look thinner than i really am -
I LOVE the ballgown style!!! I feel so princess like and I thought I looked thinner because your waist looks tiny compared to your hips.

attica - those dresses are so pretty!!! thats always the type I thought I would end up in... unfortunatly my body dosent agree

It depends...your best bet is A-line with no pleats...but it also depends on where you carry most of your weight....good luck....

I think it depends on the cut.
I tried one on when I was gown shopping and it looked so much better then I thought it would. I thought since I am short and not thin I would look like a big cow in a pool of tulle, but I guess the waist fell where it was supposed to or the stars alligned or something but it looked nice.
