Ballroom Dance Themed Wedding?

Ballroom Dance Themed Wedding?

Ok, So FH and I met through ballroom dancing and I have been tossing around the idea of using this as a theme, since it is pretty unique. I need help with some ideas.

Some ideas I have:
- Teaching a dance during the reception like a rumba and a few moves
- passing out competition numbers and holding a mini ballroom competition during the reception
- Giving away a prize for lessons

Other ideas that I can't think of would be with the save the dates, invitations, favors, etc.

Do you think this would be a good idea?

It sounds like a great idea in theory, but in reality, I think it is a LOT to undertake. People want to party, not take a dance lesson...I am sure you can incroporate it in other ways?

Maybe have a pair of dancers come in during the reception at some point?

Name the tables after famous ballroom dancers?

It's a wedding, not a dance competition, KWIM?

Thanks for the advice! i was just trying to see how we can incorporate how we met with the wedding and how we competed all 4 yrs in college - it was a big part of our life and we loved it. It is a lot to undertake so thats why its never been a concrete idea.

I agree with having dancers come in. Talk to your DJ about it. But make sure they are actual ballroom dancers. Not reg dancers.

I like the idea of having dancers come in and also even having someone teach your guests a short routine, but I would leave it at that.

I went to a wedding once where there were ballroom dancers .. if i remember like 6-8 couples that would come out a couple of times at the reception and dance .. each time they wore a different costume. It was definately entertaining to watch.
I'm not sure how many guest would want to get up to take a dance lesson in front of so many people that they do not know. they may feel akward or intimidated. KWIM.?
Plus,, if you and hubby dance... you're dances should wow the crowd.. you will be the center of attention!!

it sounds like a good idea but it'll work if all your guests are ballroom dancers who can participate. if i were a guest (and i dont do ballroom dance), i'd rather just go dancing than learn a new move!

if you really wanted to incorporate ballroom, how bout doing an extended couple dance showcasing all your moves?
