After hearing a bunch of bands I think I've picked my favorite - Current Affair. Here's the dilemma, I haven't heard them live, they don't do showcases and don't have a video except for the one on their website. I heard their CD and loved it, as well as read the various comments from brides here. John from the band suggested I pop in on a wedding that they are performing at if I want to hear them live. I think that's kind of weird/tacky. Any thoughts??

Re: Band Dilemma
When i was looking at halls i went on a Sat and felt bad. I started early which was to my advantage, i got to see a lot of decorated rooms. But once i started seeing Limos i felt out of place and nosey because i know i would be annoyed by stranger looking in on my wedding. But since your going for a band, you don't really have to go in, you can just listen! Good luck

I wouldn't hire a band that did business this way!! Do you want stangers lurking around you wedding to 'audition' the band????? Choose a band or company with showcases so you can make a choice in the right setting.

A lot of bands do this though - The band usually says that all you have to do is come in and sit by the table set aside for the band -if anyone asks say you are a guest of either the bride or groom - obviously you should dress nicely - and it is not like you are going to stay through the entire wedding anyway -

I wouldn't go to another wedding to see the band. you'll probably feel uncomfortable. I actually saw them at a showcase at the Marriot Marquis in the city. They were pretty good. Kind of hard to tell b/c it was such a huge room. I also know a fried who heard them play at a wedding and said they were very good.

Re: Band Dilemma
Thanks for the advise. I think I'm going to hire them, but I'm just nervous since all I'm going on in a cd and word of mouth. Just to give a different perspective on other bands. When I called Hank Lane they don't send CDs or videos. You have to come in and they will show you a picture of the band and play their cd for you. Since I'm out of town I thought that there might be another option, so they offered to play the cd on the phone. They just do enough business off of reputation I guess.

Re: Band Dilemma
i would be completely offended if a vendor invited people to my wedding even just hear the band and leave. if they are willing to do that for you, then im sure they are willing to do it for anyone to your wedding. anyway, i did see a current affair at a concert on the beach over the summer. they were good- just not my type. they did have one amazing singer that sang with the band but they charge $800 dollars extra for him. make sure that it wasnt him you were hearing on the video or CD and not get him in your package. FM me if you want more information.

Re: Band Dilemma
We will not have 'vendor/visitor tours' during our wedding, and therefore we woould not visit during someone else's. When we were looking for halls, we actually were led into a room, by a caterer where a 'sweet 16' was finishing up. Even this was awkward for us. We felt rude. And this was primarily young kids. By the way we love the band, The Mystic. They sound great and are reasonably priced. If you have not made your decision, check them out. Previously, (as Joedi) I had mentioned how one of the things we really liked with the mystic was exactly what you are talking about. We checked them out when they were playing one of their bar/club 'gigs'.We made a night of it, and liked it better than a showcase. Of course the music that night isn't the exact same that you will hear at a wedding(they change their play list for the bars) , but you can definitely hear they sound great.there website www.themysticmusic.com has there play list and appearance dates. You will be surprised how good they are. We were. sorry i got off your original subject. good luck
