We are having an evening wedding... great city views... formal and slightly on the traditional side... yada yada...
Band or DJ? I know it is crazy to be worrying about this so soon, but I am really torn. This is the first time a decision hasn't been easy.
My FH and I are both into hip hop, but it seems like the after party would be more of a place for this.
Are any of you doing a band and a DJ??
HELP!

Re: Band or DJ?
I am doing a band. We like the live sound better. FH is also into music and played the trumpet so a band was a must for us.
I don't think you could go wrong either way. You also have to look at your budget.

I am not into bands but it really depends on your preference and your budget it really doesn't matter what type of wedding you are having

Re: Band or DJ?
Would you consider doing a DJ with live pieces? IE: Sax player, Percussionist, Singer?

You are not thinking about it to soon at all, We are on our DJ search right now... I would love to have a band but they are just to expensive... Getting a DJ with some additional performers like a singer, piano player, percussionist might add a little band flavor to the day without it costing as much...

Re: Band or DJ?
FH and I like to hear music by the actual artists, we are not big fans of cover bands. We are leaning toward a dj with live music for the CH - probably a string trio or something along those lines.

Re: Band or DJ?
we're having both..... but if i would have been perfectly happy with the band alone! i know there a little bit more than a dj but if you get a good band it is a lot much more enjoyable than a dj IMO

Re: Band or DJ?
#1 NOT TOO SOON!!! a top choice DJ was booked for our wedding in July 2010 5 months ago!!!!!!!! you should definitely start looking into your options
#2 if you can afford it i say band.. fh and i just couldnt justify spending a crazy amount for a band.. and if we were to get a band it would have had to be a GREAT one that would cost ALOT! so we opted for a dj.. im glad we did though.. i wanna hear justin timberlake sing justin timberlake KWIM

Re: Band or DJ?
i think it also depends on the specific band or dj.....i have been to weddings with bands that were terrible or bands that were great...same with dj.
we opted for the dj bc we like to hear original artists sing the songs and there were no bands that we were really crazy about....

We went with a DJ, we couldn't afford to go with a Band-just way too much money to spend

Re: Band or DJ?
We ended up booking a DJ for two reasons:
1) To save on cost (we got a tight budget) 2) We rather hear the original songs & artist.
It's really what you're looking for and maybe what you're guests would enjoy too. For us DJ was an obvious choice. I would have considered a live band if it was an affordable option for us, but were paying this thing on our own.

Re: Band or DJ?
If I have my way..we are getting a band from Vali Music. I loved them at my cousin's wedding and believe me, I was like ew a band, thinking that it was going to sound like an old folks dinner dance but I was blown away. They are a chunk of cash but need them lol

DJ but i'm going to have a singer and perhaps a sax player during the reception also.

Re: Band or DJ?
I didn't even know the DJ could bring other people like a percussionist!
I will talk to them about that as a way to balance the DJ/Band concern. I just feel like my parents might appreciate something a little more sophisticated during dinner...
I am also concerned about band budget!
I cannot believe that people booked 5 months ago for july 2010!!!
MAJOR STRESS

Re: Band or DJ?
depending on what your budget is.. a band can get really pricey... i know most djs will have add ons like percussionists, dinner singers, sax player, etc... so you get a bit of both!

Re: Band or DJ?
Its all about your personal style. Personally, a dj was not an option, I looked into but it just was not for us. We ended up with a band. And its not silly to worry so early bc a lot of popular vendors book quick.
