You need to check out Tommys Tunes, they are the best dj around and they offer a lot of live music as well so maybe parents and fh can both be happy.

I have the answer for you. We were kinda in the same boat. I wanted full 8 piece band. FH wanted DJ. So we went with the 70's Experience. They are a full 8 piece band, that comes with the DJ 'Absolute Entertainment'. So the DJ does all the introductions and the band plays after that. When the band takes a break, DJ plays, or when band can't do a certain song. DJ plays. we thought it was great.

As far as dj's go, I recommend Starlight Express. They are amazing! They are located on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola. I don't know their phone number offhand.

As far as bands, I went to a wedding in July and they had an amazing band. The band's name is Rhapsody. But, I can guarantee that they cost way more than you want to spend.

Believe me, I would have loved to have a band but all the amazing ones cost a lot of $$$$$$ which we just could not afford.

HTH...

FM Entertainment and High Voltage are great DJs. We went w/FM. They are a vendor on here and will give you your own private showcase.

I booked with Spin Around Sound and I got a live percussionist and I haven't decided if I'm going to have the sax player or not. I also recommend Bravura if you cannot decide between a band or DJ>

Dj- Long Island Sound- they are awesome!

We used Heart and Soul Band- but they were more than 5000,but depending on the time of year///they might be negotiable...not sure! But they were great and were able to play all the uptodate music we wnanted

Re: Band or DJ recommendations?

You can settle for a dj with a combined percussion and sax... everyone will be surprised. Starlight Express and Body Rock offers it. I like both but booked with Body Rock since we felt more comfortable with them. A live percussion and sax will make such a difference than hiring a regular dj. Both are less than $4,000 (unless you want lots of lights/effects).

Cannot say enough good things about Platinum. They're a 9 piece band - check them out at www.platinumbandmusic.com

They are playing my wedding and I was quoted $5,000 - That includes a pianist and saxophone player at the CH and the full 9 piece band at the reception. The band leader, Angel, is great to deal with.

I am using Soul Revival band and you can definately get them for what you are looking to spend. FH and I saw them at a friends wedding and loved them. We had the best time dancing at their wedding and booked them almost immediately. Their website is www.soulrevivalband.com

I saw them at a wedding and they were fantastic.

I also just saw Elegancia Entertainment yesterday at a wedding and they were also fabulous.

I would recommend my band but they are around 6 thousand and it looks like that is more than you want to spend... But they are Heart & Soul and I love them
