If money wasnt a factor, would you get a band or dj? FH and I can afford the band...but cant decide if we should save out money and go with a dj. I've actually never been to a wedding with a band...so dont really know if a band makes a huge difference.

I always thought I'd want a band but honestly, the cost can be crazy for a good one and they can't always play everything you like. I agree that it would be great to have both. We're going with a DJ and are happy with that decision.

Re: Band vs DJ
well we went with a dj but not to save money, plus our DJ was a bit more pricey than others so what we paid for dj wasnt too far off from some bands. Getting a band was in our budget if we wanted to but by choice we didnt. The reason why, well i have a couple of reasons lol. For one i like to hear the original song, some bands are great and can sound just like the artist but this depends on the band, sorry ive been to some weddings where the song didnt even sound like the original, also seen some bands where i would've thought it was the artist themselves.
Another thing for me is that i had WAAAAY too many genre's of music i wanted played PLUS i needed songs in 3 languages. I LOVE reggae, rock, hip-hop, house and well most bands cant do 3 out of the 4. I personally dont like alot of pop music or top 40 songs so thats where it became a problem for me since the songs alot of bands play are pop and top 40. Dh and i are different nationalities and we wanted to play a few songs from both cultures. Both dh and i preferred a dj
I have to say that bands are getting to be real good now. They have for the past years. YEARS ago when i used to go to weddings there were alot of the cheesey type bands, but now they have alot of amazing singers, and even bands with younger musicians and singers who are more up to date. Heart and soul was one band i was that i thought was real great.

They are the one band we really want! I've seem them at two showcases and love them. But it's only 40 minutes or so of music...i get so nervous about the other 3 hrs of my party! Have you seen them perform at a wedding??

wait what do you mean only 40 mins? thats the total amount of time they perform at a wedding? WOW that is weird then, for the amount you pay, i would expect the full wedding, break during dinner and maybe just a few other breaks but thats it. Weddings ive attended with a band, they played most of the night. No i saw them at a showcase

oh no, i meant they performed for about 40 minutes at a showcase. so i know at least 40 minutes of the wedding will be great. i wonder about what else they sing for the rest of the wedding! : )

oh ok lol i was confused at first. Well i think if you meet with them they give you a sheet of songs they play so you can see for yourself what the playlist would be like.
DH and i did love them at the showcase we saw and we thought about it for a split second, but then i thought of my must playlist and said forget it. But thats only bc of the songs i really wanted played. Otherwise they were great, alot better than some other bands ive seen at weddings.

Re: Band vs DJ
The one thing we SPLURGED on was a band. At first we were going to have a DJ but this band we wanted is AMAZING. so we cut back on a lot just to have the band there. It's all about preference

Re: Band vs DJ
Why not have both? That is what we are doing. We booked with Fusion DL. They have an office in Smithtown. Manny is great to deal with. They basically have musicians that play the 'live' part of songs. If you are interested in more info FM me. The price was in between a DJ and a band. We are so excited! : )

Re: Band vs DJ
I've been to several weddings with awesome bands and it totally made the wedding...that's why we decided on a band. They really get the crowd going & into it. I also went to one where they had the DJ but then had the drums set up too as an extra and that was cool. I think in the end, it's just personal preference-

Re: Band vs DJ
This was a tough decision for us too. A DJ would have been $5000 cheaper! DH was adamant about having a band and since it was 30% his wedding, I gave in. Let me tell you that I am so glad I did. We used Code Bleu and they were our absolute favorite vendor. Yes it was a lot of $$, yes we splurged but it was so worth it. Out of all the compliments I receive about my wedding, 98% of them are about the band. If you can do it, do it! You won't be sorry.

Re: Band vs DJ
it really depends... FH doesn't want anyone else singing our wedding song other than Bono, so we definitely need a DJ for that... also, it depends on how good the band is, i was at a wedding once when the band was singing the wrong words to 'In Your Eyes' by Peter Gabriel!!!

Re: Band vs DJ
I've asked this question on here a million times and actually had a really hard time deciding. We went to a wedding that had a DJ recently as well as a showcase for a DJ and band. We ended up deciding on a band. It was more of what we were looking for in terms of the ambiance we want for the wedding. DJ's can be so much fun and they play a lot of the newer music well but we felt for us a Band was more appropriate. HTH's. I say go see a few of both and your decision will be a lot easier.
I wanted to add another thing. The Band does have the ability to play CD's in case you want a specific song from the original artist....they'll just add some background music to it.
Additionally....I priced out a lot of DJ's and was looking into the more high end ones that included addition things like drums, sax, ect. It ended up being around the same price with all the add ons which was another reason we went witht he band.

Re: Band vs DJ
I knew from the beginning that I wanted a band. So we ended up with two! DH and I are from different backgrounds- so we had two bands. Let me tell you the music did not stop once the entire night. Everyone was on the dancefloor and everyone had a blast. I love bands at weddings so we knew that that was the way we were going.
