we already booked a DJ and i must say that i LOVE them, Bravura. BUT last night we were at the Watermill showcase and Timepiece was there.. let me tell you AMAZING... we originally wanted a band but dont really want to spend all that money, but last night sort of made me regret our decision to get a DJ.. dont get me wrong.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE our DJ but the band is to lively and different. im pretty bummed about it.. FH said we can probably get out of our DJ contract but then we're in the same place about not wanting to spend the money for a band! UGHHHHHH... this is the first time so far in wedding planning that im stressed/upset. i know it might sound silly or whatever.. get me out of this funk!!!!!

Re: Band vs DJ
why don't you do some add-on options like a percussionist, etc... to get the band-like feeling

oo we did. we have a pianist/singer for cocktail hour and he will also stay through the reception to sing/play any song we want.

Also keep in mind that all your song (First Dance, Mother/Son, Father/Daughter) aren't going to sound like the same. That was a big thing when I really started to think about what we should do about entertainment. I love the way our wedding song sounds and if someone else did it, it wouldn't be as special.

trueee! thanks! i do need bon jovi singing our first song! i also keep telling myself that our RH setup isnt really conducive for a band setup. i just keep getting roped into these band showcases!!

The worst thing all these people do is create such a sense of urgency. I have worked in Marketing and I knew it was coming, but it still works.
Of course, all the bells and whistles sound great. But the best piece of advise I have been given so far is that this is one day, people remember the party as a whole not as all the bits and pieces (though the wedding industry and WETV would like us to believe differently)

I think bands are awesome...but I'm really glad we're getting a DJ, because its not the same with some songs unless the original artist sings it. Maybe you can add a vocalist or something?

Re: Band vs DJ
We were really torn as well and finally decided to just go with the band. We love the live aspect of it. If we went with a Dj we totally would have hired Bavura....I would look into Timepiece and see how much they are...what made us decide on a band is bc once we added in all the extras, the band was only like $2k more...which I know is a lot but not nearly as much as I thought....so I would look into, no harm doing so.

time piece is 6700.. a 3700 difference! if it was less of a difference i would definitely be considering it!

ehh im not a fan of bands. some songs sound great, like the old old ones but when they sing newer songs i think they sound so bad. i end up focusing on how funny and wrong it sounds rather then dancing. totally not worth the money in my opinion. you cant replicate the original 100% so for us a DJ was the way to go

I'm not a fan of bands myself. The few weddings I've been to where they had band, it was so LOOOUUUUDDDD, that you couldnt hear anyone say anything to each other.

TOTALLY agree!!!! but thats how i feel about ALLLLL songs... not just the first song. i wanna hear a song by the original artist... not a band

Re: Band vs DJ
FH loved the band at TYOTY year and suggested a bnd but I shot him down. I am a music dork and Id rather hear the original artist sing the song then a band try to sing that same song. Plus they are more money and since we are on a tight budget we are getting a DJ. DOnt get me wrong some bands are amazing just not for me.

also agree with this. i have to tell you... at TWOTY... i had a better time, and enjoyed myself better when the DJ came on... and the band finally stopped.
