Anyone ever use or advertise for a band from a graduate school? I heard they can be good and a lot cheaper but wanted to know if anyone has done this or if its a ludicrous idea.

I know people who used string quartets from Stony Brook for cocktail hours, but I don't know of anyone using a real student band for the reception. I would be hesitant to use a band that hasn't played many weddings, since they may not know what to expect.

I agree..most of the bands know all the ins and outs of the catering places and how to run a wedding. A band that doesn't do weddings may not be able to handle the policies and procedures of the catering hall.
For a ceremony or cocktail hr that would be fine...JMO

Thanks - that makes sense. I guess I'm just overwhelemed by the price of bands. But you make good and valid points - oh well onto the next thing:).
