Can anyone recommend bands that are under 6K?? So far I know of:
After Hours Orchestra East Coast Current Affair The Zoo
I know there must be a few others out there.. I'm open to having a 6 or 7 + piece band.

The Touch!!! they are phenomenal...did my wedding a few weeks ago and they were awesome! Everyone raved about them and they kept the dance floor packed!

I have yet to see a showcase but I love their video on their website... do you mind sending me an FM with their price? I heard their going rate was around $7K and that is more than our budget will allow for a 5 piece. I am afraid they wont play some the ethnic/italian traditional song or two to please the parents?

I don't know if your into this but we're having a band that isn't a 'traditional' wedding band. We actually were out at one of our favorite bars that showcase live bands every weekend. We absolutely fell in love with the band they had there.. their name is Eleven Eleven. My fiancee and I aren't into the traditional wedding songs, we wanted more contemporary music with a live bar band feel. This band tours up and down the east coast. They do weddings all the time. They can come with a DJ to do the cocktail hour, intro's and any slow songs. They also sent me their song list this week and will sing anything we want. I've seen them live twice and they are so much fun! They put their spin on classic and contemporary rock songs. Again, this isn't your normal, 7 piece band...it's more of a young, great, live, rock cover band. It's just a different route to go if you want live music and the lead singer is a really great guy!

I would try calling some bands even if they are over your budget. They don't seem to be doing as well because of the economy and many are willing to negotiate (and this is when I was planning my wedding for May 09).
