Bank Statements and other assorted paperwork

Bank Statements and other assorted paperwork

When can I toss out old bank statements? What's the 'cutoff' time?

Do I need to save my EZ pass statements?

I get statements from my health insurance carrier. They are not bills just statements saying that they paid X amount to the doctor and I owe nothing other than my co-pay.
Do I have to save those?

I'm trying to clean off my desk.

TIA

i generally cross check the bank statements monthly and keep only the latest statement

i cross check the new statement with all ATM slips and then toss the ATM slips and the prior month's statement

i save the insurance stuff

i keep credit card receipts, and all bills for 1 year, right now i have july 03- july 04

I have learned after two mortgages to save all my bank and financial statements for at least two years. You never know when they may ask for something. Tax forms I keep for at least five years.

I dont file them or anything.... I just throw all my statements in a box. If I ever need something I will weed through them.

Just remember to shred everything before tossing it!

I keep my bank statements for a year. For certain things they ask for a years worth of statements(mortgage, proof of residence for school etc.). Then again, I am anal retentive.

Sigh....are you related to DH? His way of organizging things is 'put it in the big box in the closet'. Finding out marriage certificate was a nightmare the other week.
