Can someone explain to me what might be going on ..
My friend made a payment to a bank, actually at that bank about 3 weeks ago.
However, his checking account at his bank (a different company) still shows no sign of that check, meanwhile his current statement to the bank he made the payment to has credited his account for the payment.
How can this be?? How can one bank credit for a payment, while the other bank is showing no sign of the check that was used to make the payment .. especially after 3 weeks???
These are two different banking companies, not two different branches of the same bank.

Kel, I have the same problem. I mailed a credit card payment and my payment was posted to my card 4 days after being mailed, but as of today (a month since they posted my payment) my bank still has not received the check. I was thinking of calling my credit card company to see what the problem is.

What's strange is my friend's own bank didn't really seem to have any answers for him .. just said they had no information on the check and to wait til tomorrow .. well, after three weeks .. what's going to be so special about 'tomorrow' that it finally shows up .. though they didn't mean it would .. they just said to wait til tomorrow .. and like I said .. they had no answers for him.
So that's why I came here .. hoping someone has banking experience that might be able to explain.

No .. he just figured maybe it was an error with his own bank, and said he was afraid of triggering some kind of error with the account that was paid if he called questioning about this check that hasn't come back to his bank yet. You know how easily people can get confused??? So he didn't want to disturb the bill that had been marked as paid, since his check was handed directly to that bank.

If the bank he wrote the check FROM hasnt cleared his check (sorry was it a he? anyway) then why not just ask the CC company for proof of payment. That you need to track the payment. Then I'd call my bank I wrote the check from and say 'This check number has been uncleared for 3 weeks yet the payee has been paid for the check, please clarify'.
Just a thought.

I had the opposite happened I made a payment to MBNA with my former chase account and it showed that it cleared on Chase but no MBNA. Two weeks later they realized they posted the paymet to my MIL's account.
Her name is Loretta B and mine is Laurie B... She thought it was 'money from God' and never told them until I was able to track it down from the numbers on back of the returned check
