FH and I need our baptism certificates for my church. It can't be the original one because it has to be issued within the year. The problem is that FH's church where he was baptized at is no longer there! They closed down a very long time ago. They were located in Smithtown. Does anyone know what we should do in this situation. I'm sure they had to send the files over somewhere, right?
Ugh!! TIA!

Re: Baptism Certificate
You will have to get in touch with the diocese office. I had to do that for FH baptism certificate. Call them and tell them the church is closed and they will tell you that will probably have to write a letter with all his information in it and send it to them. Good Luck

Re: Baptism Certificate
Thank you! I just wish FH could do at least one thing for himself related to the wedding. I'm getting so tired of taking care of EVERYTHING!!
Thanks girls! I knew you'd know the answer

Re: Baptism Certificate
Definitely call the Diocese, the records should've been transferred to another church!

You know, that's exactly what his mother said. She said they were transferred to St. Patrick's in Smithtown, but when we went there to meet with the priest they didn't have that information. (Not getting married there anymore) So confused!!

Re: Baptism Certificate
I spoke to my priest about my certificate b/c I was baptised in the PI and he said that if I can't get it, they will accept letters from 2 witnesses that I was baptised there. But I thought that the reason that they asked for the baptisimal certificate was to make sure tha tyou were never married before... so i dunno. maybe you can ask your priest that

Ugh, what a pain! This is what our priest told us. We thought FH's old church had closed, but it was still around so we didn't have to go through all of this. Hope you track down the records soon!
ETA: Did the Communion/Confirmation take place at the same church, the one that closed down? If not, maybe the priest will accept either of those as sufficient proof. They might even have a notation about the baptism on there!

Re: Baptism Certificate
You will definitely need to call the diocese. The reason for the original one(the churchs copy) is that everytime you receive a sacrament, the information goes back to the place where you were baptized. On the back of the certificate is the information for your other sacraments(communion and confirmation) thats why they want that one and not the one your mother would have. And when you get married, they send that info to the original church and it will be added to your certificate to show all sacraments have been completed. Being that his church is no more. Whoever has the certificate will have that info needed. Its annoying, but thats what they want. --------------------------------------------------------------------
Rivera2be:: It might be a problem(not sure). The only thing they wouldnt let you do is have a mass. If you dont care about that, then it shouldnt be a problem but I would def find out now rather then later
