FH has to get new copy of his baptism cert. The one he has says that he was baptised at the Chancery(sp) in Brooklyn but when he called there they couldnt help him.
Does anyone know how we would go about getting a new one?

Re: Baptism (sp) cert?
Sorry I don't have an answer for you...except to commiserate. Why does the Catholic Church insist on a NEW copy of a baptismal certificate? I have the original...can't they make a copy of that? Why do we have to bug the church we were baptised at? I can imagine many of them don't keep records forever!
I'm venting--Sorry again!

Contact the Brooklyn Diocese and tell them where he was baptized and they should be able to help you.

I agree with LIJuneBride. The arch diocese of Brooklyn should be able to help you if the church cant

The church should be able to help him unless the church is no longer there. The diocese will definitley be able to help him. My Fh and I have to get them also since we weren't baptised in the church were getting married in.

The reason that they require a NEw one, as I was told, is that they mark each time you were married on your certificate...or something of that nature!

Re: Baptism (sp) cert?
Actually, the priest told me why they ask for a new copy... he said that it is a way that they check up on you to make sure that you received all of your sacraments... cause on the back of your new baptismal certificate... they should be listed....apparently everytime you receive a new sacrament, it is recorded on the back of the baptismal certificate... so its a way for them to make sure that you arent lying when you say that you've received Communion and Confirmation....

Re: Baptism (sp) cert?
I made my first communion and they didn't put that on the back so what am I supposed to do about that? They didn't ask me if I made any of my sacraments.

Re: Baptism (sp) cert?
LADIES:
Please be sure to ask for an UPDATED version of your baptismal certificate, NOT a copy of it. Everytime you complete a sacrament, the church where you completed that sacrament (even if it was at a dif church) has to report it to the church where you were baptized so that church can make the notation on the back of the baptismal certificate.
Also know that the cert must be requested a max of 6 months before the wedding..
