We've started the process to get Caiden Baptized. But we have a big problem. My DH and I didn't know that the Godparents have to be Confirmed. We don't know anyone that's confirmed??? We only know of people who made their Communion. So, now we can't get Caiden Baptized!!! We can't help not knowing anyone! What can we do?

Re: Baptism/Godparent problem...
Is anyone in your family of the religion you want to baptize your child? What about parents, siblings, cousins? I know with the catholic church they are very strict, but other religions are lenient. My best friend is catholic but decided to Christen her daughter at a Methodist church.

Re: Baptism/Godparent problem...
Melissa, I thought only one Godparent had to be a confirmed Catholic...Ryan has a Catholic Godfather and a Protestant Godmother and it was fine - she just goes down in the records as a 'Christian Witness'...so maybe it will be easier to find just one person who is confirmed??

Re: Baptism/Godparent problem...
Even though I have received all my sacraments, I have been a godmother twice (and a 3rd time this weekend) and I don't recall even being asked if I was confirmed. I surely have never had to provide proof of it.

You don't know anyone who made their confirmation?
You asked them all?

This might be one of those things that differs by parish/priest. Can you try another church in your area?

Re: Baptism/Godparent problem...
When I was asked to be godmother, no one asked me if I was confirmed or not. I guess it is different in every parish.

Yes, I have to agree that where you live has a large bearing in what is required for the Catholic church. We have a huge list of what is OK and isn't OK for Godparents. For one, even if the one Godparent is not Catholic, they must get a letter of recommendation from their church stating they are good church-going people and if they are catholic they have made all of their sacraments up through confirmation. They also, if married, are to be married in the Catholic church and if they are divorced, they cannot be remarried. This, unfortunately, makes our life pretty difficult for chosing Godparents because it is hard finding people that fit all of the above!
Melissa- I feel your pain! I agree, is their one person that is Catholic and the other be Christian? What about either of your parents?
