Barcelona

Any ladies traveling or have traveled recently to Barcelona on their honeymoons or just a trip? My hubby and I are going for our 1 year anniversary and I would love some advice on dos/don'ts and must see sites.

Re: Barcelona

I was there almost 13 years ago which is insane to me... since I'm only 30!!! But anyway... I remember thinking the Dali museum was absolutely amazing. I'm a huge art history buff though so I loved it. Of course the Gaudi church is a must-see as well.

Barcelona is a beautiful city! Just keep a watch on your personal belongings because pick-pockets run rampant.

I totally agree about the pick-pockets! I caught a young girl, around maybe 14 with her hand in my bag on the subway. Luckily she didn't get anything, but it was a scary experience for me!

As far as must sees...definitely go to the Park Guell, I loved that, so beautiful. All of the Gaudi buildings are amazing, especially the not yet finished La Sagrada Familia.

Enjoy! I am so jealous. I wanted to share the experience of Barcelona with my FH, but unfortunately I was there for a work conference, and he couldn't come. I hope we will make it there someday!

Thank you ladies, I've been reading up on it, but I feel like there's no substitute for first hand experience.

Barcelona is one of my favorite European cities! Gaudi's Parc Guell (or something like that) was my absolute favorite thing there (plan on spending the better part of the day there), followed by his apartment building - the rooftop is covered with these quirky looking chimney things and makes for great and fun photographs - and the Sagrada Familia church. Also, wandering around the old city and by the sea were also incredible experiences. Just beware that a lot of places like the cathedral in the old city still do the siesta thing where they are closed from like noon to 3pm.

We also took trips up both of the 2 mountains there. One has a big church on top with a huge statue of Jesus that overlooks Barcelona - that was interesting to see. THe other mountain, the one where the Olympics was held, didn't really have anythign to see but a defunct fort on top; I wouldn't recommend the trek up it.

I hope this helps. I went awhile ago so I don't remember hte names, but if you find a travel book and read it, you will know exactly what I'm referring to!

I spent a summer in BCN and still love it!! I agree about Parc Guell- so magical!

I think the mountain that a previous poster mentioned is called Montserrat. It is beautiful! A perfect day trip out of the city. While there, you must try mato y miel. It is cheese and honey, but trust me, it is delicious!!

If you go, you must eat at a resterant called Tenorio. Delicioso!! It is right on Passeig de Gracia, a famous road. It is across from La Pedrera, which (in my opinion) is Gaudi's most beautiful building (take the tour- the rooftop is soo awesome!!). Also have tapas at any small shop.

Lastly, if you are BCN, you will def hit Las Ramblas!! This is a long pedestrian walkway with cool shops, street vendors, human statues... Its fun there.

Barcelona is a beautiful city!! Please FM me with any questions or anything- I love it!!
