So I am new to BM makeup- I have only been using it for about 3 months. But so far I really like it because it is so light! I hate wearing thick heavey makeup. But, I noticed that it all has SPF. Anyone know if they carry it without spf? I'd like to consider using it for my wedding makeup, but all photogrpahers and makeup artists I have spoken with say that spf makeup is a no no for a wedding day as it can reflect in pictures- or something like that.

Re: bare minerals makeup
Why would photographers say no SPF? That doesn't make any sense to me. I would love to know why...
Either way, I don't think they make it without the SPF protection in it.

Re: bare minerals makeup
Jillian from Gorgeous faces uses Jane Iredale mineral makeup and it has SPF in it. She does tons of brides on this site so I'm sure that the SPF won't make a difference.

Re: bare minerals makeup
okay I remember now that spf is what gives the effect of having a lighter face than the rest of your body in photographs. Maybe ask your makeup artist about this as well as your photogrpaher. I def don't want that to happen in my pics. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I was told the same thing by my MU artist. I'm not taking any chances- no SPF for me.

Re: bare minerals makeup
Yes, there is something in SPF that becomes reflective when there's flash photography, so you can have light spots or a lighter face etc.
However, the SPF in bare minerals is supposed to be naturally occuring, and I've taken flash pictures while wearing it, and I've never had a problem.

Re: bare minerals makeup
It still makes me nervous though. I think I am gonna go to the makeup counters at roosevelt field and see who freelances and get consultations. And Ill get one at Bare escentuals too and see what they say about the spf.
Thanks girls!

Re: bare minerals makeup
I think one of the minerals is actually a metal...i think titanium....so it reflects with the flash...and it makes you look white. But i've taken pictures with bare minerals and have never had a problem. maybe it depends on how much you have on?

I would swear by it. I never really wore makeup because i hate heavy cakey makeup and dont have much time to do it, but this is fabulous. you dont even remember you are wering it, and it is very fast! it was one of my best purchases ever!
ETA: I will try and take before and after pics one day and post them here. I am always amazed at how it makes me look!

Re: bare minerals makeup
I posted a question about the spf on the vendors page and this was a reply I got.
'I've been working with photography light for a long time so here's my explanation. Hope it helps.
SPF contains an ingredient called Titanium Dioxide which is a natural sunscreen that’s put into many types of makeup; it’s pretty undetectable to the naked eye, but it works by reflecting light and shielding the skin. What this means when you’re dealing with extremely high-powered lighting is that the titanium dioxide reflects TOO much, giving the face (and anywhere the TD product is applied) a masklike look doesn’t jive with the rest of their skin. Please make sure that any of the makeup your makeup artist of choice is using is photo friendly and does not contain TD.'
