Bare with me...this is corny!
So today I was thinking about how fortunate I am to have a happy, healthy life, family and friends (and LIW
) and reflecting upon people that aren't as fortunate and have fallen on hard times in this economy. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the trivial things in life and forget the big picture.
So I went to Walmart at bought $100 worth of toys and brought them to PO for Toys for Tots; their donations are down 50% from last year and it saddens me
Hopefully I made a child's Christmas morning a little happier and joyous
Then I stopped at 7-11 and bought a homeless man a coffee and a donut, so he could have something to warm his soul on this cold day
Since I was still feeling charitable, I cleaned out my closet and brought a bunch of old coats to the Church for their church drive. Now someone can be a little a warmer this winter
And finally, I donated my frozen turkey to the food pantry since they were in desperate need of food and canned goods, which I brought also. A family now has a hearty holiday dinner to share
I sometimes feel like I don't do enough in my community to help others, though I always try if I can. It's important to remember the true spirit of the holidays and care for our fellow man in any way. Whether its a cup of coffee or a donation to charity, there are people who are in need of such help and they shouldn't be forgotten. People nowadays are so 'me me me' and look down on those in need which is unfortunate. There are still nice people in the world.
A good deed goes a long way for the soul. When my car broke down, a nice man stopped and brought me gas and refused to take my money; FH has helped people stuck in snow, changed people's tires, bought food for a homeless person, and every time they try to give him money, he always says, 'Don't pay me with money, pay me with gratitude. Just do something nice for someone else today like I just did for you.' Can you tell he likes to pay it forward
So while I know have been rambling, it also wouldn't be a Christmas in NY if there weren't those people whose mission in life it is to be nasty....such as the woman at Best Buy last night who was SO OFFENDED (and said as much) when we were asked to move the line around a DVD display that she started screaming and yelling and walked out...I hope she makes the naughty list now
Happy Holidays my loves and may 2010 bring you all nothing but happiness, joy and love to you and yours
