bargaining with hotels?

Is this something that is even possible or is it pretty much a set price, no budging, no matter how much of your clothes clothes you offer to take off as a negotiation tactic?

ETA: I meant the rate they give you for your guests

actually - i found that most were set on their rate - even if other hotels were offering something lower. But you should still try - i found one that was willing to match another offer to get our business.

You can negotiate. Get rates from local competitors. Rates may come down the more rooms you block.

There may not come down drastically but they will a little.

we negotiated.......our hotel was the Hyatt. The Radisson was next door.......so when we found out that the Radisson was $10.00 a night cheaper, we mentioned it to our Banquet Manager at the Hyatt, she talked to her boss, and we ended up getting our rooms for the same price as the Radisson rooms were. We told them if they weren't able to match the rooms then we would have our guests go to the Radisson.

It never hurts to try.......The worst they can say is NO
