How much would it cost to take down a baring wall opposed to a non baring wall in a levitt cape do you think? Thanks, Scott

Re: Baring wall
You can't take down a baring wall with out supporting it. You can do what they call an I beam which is a huge piece of steel that runs the length of the house but may be pretty pricey. Otherwise you would need to install a post or 2 depending on the length of the wall. this would be relativly inexpensive and less attractive and can be down by you if you handy. If your not then hire someone. To save on it you can rip down the sheetrock or plaster. Thats my 2cents

Re: Baring wall
We took the non load bearing wall down ourselves and had a contractor friend take the load bearing walls down. He installed a header and we have a post at the corner. Other wise you will have to run an entire beam like the post above.

Re: Baring wall
WE just did this in our kitchen to expand it. My Dad made the header and put it in and then had to re-support all the floor beams. My Dad is insane like that He had to build 2 temp walls to hold up the load while he took the baring wall down. It was all pretty bad a s s

Re: Baring wall
It's major work. We opted not to do it in our kitchen.

Re: Baring wall
The pricing would be based upon the size of header to go in, most likely not steel since we are talking renovation, and the live load that that would be supported by temporary walls. fm me for more information if you would like.
