Bars in NYC with Private Party Rooms

i'm throwing DH a 30th bday party and looking for bars with private party rooms. he doesnt want anything too fancy so i was thinking the havana room at Mo's Carribean (which is totally private, separate entrance and you dont need to hire a separate DJ) but it's pretty expensive so i thought i should compare it with some other places before booking. any suggestions? TIA!

I work at Sutton Place on 2nd avenue and Tonic in Times Square. Both have private rooms/areas. Both should provide the house DJ for music like Mo's.

But I can't see both being any cheaper than Mo's. I figured Mo's would be cheap in itself cause thats a much smaller bar.

But it doesn't hurt to check it out I suppose.

So many of them have private rooms, have you done a search on citysearch?

its $35pp for 3 hr top shelf open bar plus either $10pp or $25pp (depending on whether i just want hors doerves or full dinner) but I wouldnt have to hire a DJ.
does that seem expensive (a) for a 30th bday party and (b) for a place like mo's?

We had a bar we used for our company parties downtown. It's on Rector Street at the corner of Greenwich(?) I think. It's called Remy. They had a private area upstairs and provide the DJ. You could try them.

My friend's husband had her 30th birthday at an awesome bar with a roof deck. I cannot think of the name of it now though

I think that is reasonable for Manhattan. I also think hor doerves are fine. My brother did that for his wife's 30th.

Thats very cheap. Shop around... but thats probably a very good deal especially since Mo's room is totally private.

DjPill - I love Sutton Place!! When do you work?

Salason626 - I went to a new place called Kanvas last night that had a private room that looked really nice - 23rd/9th. Another nice place in the West Village is called Fuelray that has a back room - it is closed off for private parties, although no separate entrance.

I am normally in there on Saturday nights.... and occasionally on Thr/Fri nights. I am splitting time between there and Tonic so my schedule varies week by week.

But 90% of the time I am there Saturday nights.

For my DH's 30th I went throught the same thing. I wanted something nice, but I didn't want to ask people to pay $40 to celebrate because some of our friends aren't big drinkers. I ended up at a cute place called Under The Volcano. We just booked the back part of the bar no cover, no fee and we had the place to ourselves most of the night. If you are worried about the $$$ I would look at places that don't do a huge nighttime bussiness. This place was in the east 30's and does a great HH bussiness, but is slow between 8-11. Just an idea.
