Re: basement apartments
Basement apartments will be cheaper, but the health problems suck. If you have any kinds of allergies to mold and mildew, you will be miserable no matter how well insulated it is. My supervisor lived in a basement apt for 2 years and was constantly at the allergist. FH and I lived in the first floor of a house for about a year and really liked it. When I was single I lived on the 2nd floor of a house. I got an AC for my bedroom and was fine. It helped that the den was on the lower level and always stayed cool. I vote for 2nd floor Hope this helps!

Re: basement apartments
In the apartment I live in right now we have people living above us, and I HATE it. All we hear is them walking around!!! And some times we can hear them in the bed room!!! I would pick the top floor!!!

Re: basement apartments
Basement apartments can be illegal in Nassau county if the person does not have the proper license/insurance/zoning permits. A landlord is not allowed to collect rent for an illegal apartment.

Re: basement apartments
I just recently moved into a 2nd floor of a house and although someone in an earlier post said it is really hot I am always cold in my apartment. Also for the past 20 years I have lived on the second floor of my parents house because we have a 2 family and I have never felt that it was overly hot. I really think it depends on the layout. When me & FI were looking for a place we didn't want a basement just because of the lack of windows and light and you might not be able to have an air conditioner b/c there is no windows or space for it. Just some thoughts.
We found an apartment pretty quickly but we really looked at some bad ones.
FM me if you have any questions

Re: basement apartments
We lived in the basement at my mom's house until we found our own apartment and we hated it. Every time it rained it flooded...it was also very dark because there were only a few windows and they were the small basement ones...we couldn't even put an air conditioner in. That was just my experience though. I would def vote for the 1st or 2nd floor.
