My Future IL's live there in a building right across from the Cross Island and the water. We are thinking about buying a coop there (his uncle just bought a 3br, 2 bath coop for $280,000). I work in Deer Park- do you think this is too far? My FH works in Oyster bay and Rosyln right now. Any other opinions of the area?
i think its a great area....just for the park near the throggs neck...
We used to live on the other side of Fran Lew...so we could bike or walk to that park and it is beautiful!!!
DH worked in Westchester...i worked in Levittown
I left at 6:!5, and the traffic was nothing (reverse commute)...but on days when I would go in later...it was bad...but nothing as bad as going west...
the coming home commute is kind of bad after 4
let me know if you have questions...We loved living there!!!

Re: Bay Terrace
Bay Terrace is nice!! A friend of FH's lives there and we went to look at his coop a few weeks ago. This is one of the places that we are thinking of buying a coop.

Re: Bay Terrace
We live in Whitestone, about a mile from the Baybridge Commons. I love the area! I commute every day to Hempstead and the reverse commute is pretty easy. It takes me about 25-30 minutes in each direction during rush hour.

Re: Bay Terrace
I made a reverse commute from Glendale out to Suffolk (Bayport) for 3 months, and other than the length of time, it wasn't bad traffic-wise. Used to take me 60-70 minutes in the AM and 70-80 minutes in leaving at 5:00 to head back to Queens.

Re: Bay Terrace
I used to live right there...in the coop building behind Terrace on the Green and the golf course. I used to commute to NJ...so I'm no help there...but the area was nice. It's very 'sub-urban' part of queens...feels like LI because you drive everywhere and there are parking lots and stuff. When I used to go visit my parents, I could make it to exit 61 on the LIE in about 40 minutes if there was no traffic.

Re: Bay Terrace
Its a great area, but commuting to Deer Park sounds like something that can start to take a toll... sounds like a long commute to me.
I live about 15-20 minutes from Deer Park, and I travel to Queens to visit my parents and sister at least twice a month. MAYBE more, but I CANT fathom doing the drive every day.
Just try out the commute during realistic rush hour, and see if you would mind it or not. Its all a personal decision. Maybe you can listen to books on tape in the car But if youd hate the commute, the job or the home has to take priority and you shift the other over to make smooth combination.
Good luck!

Re: Bay Terrace
I live in Whitestone and commute to Lindenhurst every day. To be completely honest 95% of the time it isn't bad especially depending on the time of day you travel. I take a crazy way... Cross Island to NSP to Wantagh to SSP, and I can make it in 45 minutes. Of course, depending on sun glare, accidents, and rain it can take up to an hour or more. September is a worse month because schools open and summer is an amazing time - no traffic at all!!
Bay Terrace is a great area to live - I've been doing basically the same commute you would be doing for over 2 years now. Just have lots of good CDs in the car and you'll be fine.
Edited to say: It really stinks driving home when it snows, but not to discourage you - its really not bad all the time. It would be bad driving home in the snow regardless - I just needed to vent tonight!

Re: Bay Terrace
The area is wonderful!! My mother has been in Bay Terrace for over 10 years and loves it. I am closer to Northern, near Bell - you can't beat the convenience.
DH works out on the Island and has noticed an increase in traffic heading that way. So depending on your schedule, it could be a long ride to Deer Park. With some cd's or audio books it may not be so bad.
