I have a call in to my doctor to ask her this question but she is only in once a week so I have to wait a while to hear back so I thought maybe you guys could offer some advice.
Ok long story short I have ovarian cysts and have had to be on BC since I was 15.. that is 11 years and I just feel like this can not be healthy. My doc assures me its fine but I just get nervous and really dont want to take it anymore, I can stand the pain of not taking it. I want to come off of it for a few months (8 months or so) and then go back on it like 3 months before the wedding so that I can make SURE I do not get my period for the wedding or honeymoon. Do you think this is a bad idea? Should I just wait it out until after the wedding then stop?

Re: BC Question
the new pills that are out on the market are great , low dose and regulate a ton of problems besides your cysts. i went off the pill about a year ago and i have been in hell!!! breakouts, panic attacks etc i def reccomend staying on them unless you are a heavy smoker over the age of 35
i am going back on them after i see my doctor

Re: BC Question
i'm sorry about the ovarian cysts. but honestly, i would wait til after the wedding only cause i'm terrified about getting prego before the wedding but if you feel it's something you want to do and if your doc says its fine then do it.

Re: BC Question
my sis has the same problem, although she doesnt mind being on the BC pills ... they really did help her and they made them smaller ... She has been on them for a little longer than you. Do the BC give you side effects? Its acutally very common in woman to have cysts so its not unhealthy.

To be honest I dont know if BC gives me side effects cause I have been on it for so long I just didnt think being on it for 11 years without a break was healthy

Re: BC Question
I have cysts too (is it PCOS?) and I'm in the same boat - on it since I was 15. I would just stay on until after the wedding. You don't want to mess with your cycle if it needs to be regulated by BC pills. Plus changes in BC pills can cause weight loss or gain and no one wants that when they're trying to have a dress fitted. And I don't think that prolonged BC causes a problem. They have those IUDs that stay in for years and are fine.

Re: BC Question
My doctor tells me all the time that it's fine. I have been on the pill for 16 years without a break and have no issues whatsoever.
In those 16 years, I've changed doctors 4 times and each one has told me that it's ok. As long as you're not a smoker over the age of 35, they say it's fine.
Also, now I'm on seasonale (you only get your period every 3 months) and it's the best invention in the world!!!!

Re: BC Question
I'd talk to your dr about it, but chances are it would be better for you to stay on the pill. You never know how your body will adjust to going off (and then going back onto) the pill. Who knows if 3 months will be enough time for your body to readjust? I say it's just safer to stay on and try going off after your wedding.
